E3G is looking for a Senior Policy Advisor to support its Clean Economy Programme in driving our strategy around industrial decarbonisation and the Emission Trade System (ETS) in Europe. This role is based in E3G's Brussels office.
Background
E3G is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook. We are world-leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all.
We work on the frontier of the climate landscape, tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate. Our goal is to translate climate politics, economics and policies into action.
E3G is consistently ranked as one of the top ten most influential environmental think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania's Global Go To Think Tank Index.
Role
Based in the Clean Economy Team, this Senior Policy Advisor role will play a leading role in E3G's strategy on accelerating industry decarbonisation and defending the EU ETS at a critical inflection point.
The successful candidate will build out our strategy for defending the ETS, identify priority interventions, and engage our network on this strategy. The role will require a deep understanding of the politics of industrial decarbonisation and a strong coalition-building profile.
The role will require experience working with civil society, government and industry stakeholders, and a good understanding of EU politics and policy processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on E3G's strategy and thought leadership on industrial decarbonisation and defending the EU ETS, working closely with the EU Industry Programme Lead and in collaboration with the wider Clean Economy and EU Politics teams;
- Build E3G's profile on industry decarbonisation and industrial policy, developing propositions and leading advocacy to strengthen E3G's network among key decision makers on industry in the EU;
- Monitor key policy debates and developments in Europe and internationally related to EU ETS and interpreting them in the context of E3G's work;
- Engage with and help to convene key stakeholder networks and supporting NGOs, businesses and investor groups, as well as managing relationships with these stakeholders;
- Produce internal and external communication materials and undertake short pieces of wider analysis;
- Travel may be required, but we are open to discussing this if this would otherwise become a barrier to your application.

You are comfortable working on complex research projects and confident in running analytical processes. You will be able to help identify and engage with a range of external stakeholders to understand their perspectives and communicate ideas and findings.
Experience and Skills
The successful candidate will:
- Have a high-quality degree or professional qualification in a relevant area;
- Have at least five years of relevant professional experience;
- Have a strong background in industrial decarbonisation and industrial policy and an understanding of European climate and energy policy more broadly, knowledge of the EU ETS specifically would be highly desirable. You bring expertise and established networks in at least one of these areas;
- Be adept at communicating clear, accessible research and presenting ideas clearly and credibly with colleagues and contacts;
- Be a supportive, collaborative, and open colleague and team player. Be used to operating within diverse teams, with a high degree of cultural sensitivity;
- Be well organised and focused on delivering desired outputs, results, and outcomes;
- Demonstrate a track-record of building new stakeholder relationships and partnerships;
