E3G is looking for a Senior Policy Advisor to support its Clean Economy Programme in driving our strategy around industrial decarbonisation and industrial policy in Europe. This role is internal and all E3Gers are welcome to apply.

E3G is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook. We are world-leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all. We work on the frontier of the climate landscape, tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate. Our goal is to translate climate politics, economics and policies into action. E3G is consistently ranked as one of the top ten most influential environmental think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania's Global Go To Think Tank Index.

Role

The Senior Policy Advisor will play a leading role in E3G's strategy on industrial decarbonisation and industrial policy in Europe. Working closely with the Programme Lead and colleagues across E3G, the Senior Policy Advisor will help develop E3G's strategy, identify priority interventions, build E3G's profile and strengthen our network among key decision-makers and stakeholders working on the transformation of European industry. The role requires a strong understanding of the transition of energy-intensive industrial sectors, including sectors such as steel, cement and chemicals, alongside an understanding of the cross-cutting policies and institutions needed to deliver a climate-neutral and competitive European economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a leading role in the development of E3G's strategy and thought leadership on industrial decarbonisation and industrial policy in the EU, working closely with the Programme Lead and colleagues across E3G.
  • Develop policy propositions and strategic recommendations and translate E3G's analysis into practical approaches for influencing EU policy and political debates.
  • Monitor relevant policy, political and economic developments in Europe and internationally and interpret their implications for E3G's work.
  • Build E3G's profile on industrial decarbonisation and industrial policy and strengthen relationships with key EU decision-makers and stakeholders.
  • Develop and lead advocacy strategies and engage policymakers, industry, civil society, investors and other expert stakeholders.
  • Represent E3G externally in meetings, workshops, conferences and other policy and political discussions.
  • Lead and contribute to high-quality policy analysis on industrial decarbonisation and industrial policy.
  • Translate complex policy and political developments into timely analysis and recommendations for different audiences.
  • Inspire and facilitate action across E3G on industrial decarbonisation and industrial policy, helping colleagues connect their work to wider industrial transition objectives.
  • Manage relevant grant funding and contribute to project development, fundraising and funder relationships.
  • Contribute to wider E3G organisational priorities and collaborative working across teams.

Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will:

  • Several years of relevant professional experience, with progressively greater responsibility and a track record of delivering high-quality work and policy impact.
  • A degree, professional qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant area.
  • A strong background in industrial decarbonisation or industrial policy and a good understanding of European climate and energy policy more broadly.
  • Expertise and established networks in at least one relevant area of industrial decarbonisation or industrial policy.
  • A strong understanding of EU politics, institutions and policymaking processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and credibly to different audiences.
  • Experience engaging and influencing decision-makers from government, business, industry, finance and civil society.
  • The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and take ownership of significant areas of work.
  • Experience working in or with EU institutions or within the Brussels policy community is desired.
  • Knowledge of the transition challenges facing industrial sectors such as steel, cement and chemicals is an advance.

What We Offer

  • 25 vacation days + additional leave between Christmas and New Year.
