About the role

We're looking for a Data Engineer to join our Energy Markets & Development (EM&D) Data Engineering team within Information Systems & Technology.

This is a core technical role focused on designing, building, and supporting scalable data solutions that underpin trading, portfolio, and enterprise analytics capabilities. You'll work within a cross-functional agile team to deliver high-quality data pipelines, contribute to the enterprise data platform, and help drive engineering best practice across the function.

What you'll be doing

• Design, build and maintain scalable, high-quality data pipelines and analytics solutions
• Contribute to the development and ongoing support of the enterprise data platform
• Collaborate with engineers, architects and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Work within agile delivery frameworks, contributing to planning, code reviews, and continuous improvement of engineering practices
• Ensure solutions are secure, resilient, and aligned to enterprise architecture, while proactively managing risks and technical debt
• Maintain data assets and ensure compliance with AGL's security, governance and IT standards

What you'll bring

• Strong data engineering experience, including building and optimising data pipelines and ETL/ELT frameworks
• Proficiency in SQL and modern cloud data platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure (e.g. Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Data Lake)
• Experience with Python/PySpark and working with diverse data formats and integration patterns
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools (e.g. GitHub, Azure DevOps) and modern engineering standards
• Understanding of contemporary data architectures and modelling approaches (e.g. lakehouse, medallion, Data Vault/dimensional modelling)
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in agile, cross-functional teams
