Are you passionate about addressing the climate crisis through transportation sustainability? If so, then join our growing team and help work toward dramatically reducing transportation-sector emissions by 2050. At the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), you'll be part of an organization that makes a difference toward a cleaner, more equitable transportation system.

ACEEE seeks a research analyst to conduct research and to work directly with local and state governments on projects that aim to transform the transportation sector.

The analyst will be a member of ACEEE's transportation program, which works to drive policy and program innovation among local and state governments, utilities, and critical private-sector stakeholders. The transportation program covers a variety of topics, including electrification of freight and passenger vehicles, better integrated land use and transportation policy, stringent fuel efficiency standards, and improved multimodal transportation infrastructure.

The analyst will contribute to the transportation program's work across these areas through research, analysis, and outreach. A prominent focus of the analyst's work will be advancing cross-cutting strategies to improve the energy efficiency of the transportation sector while also creating a more equitable and accessible transportation system.

Core Responsibilities

  • Contributes to ACEEE research and analysis
  • Assists with developing and delivering technical assistance to outside stakeholders
  • Manages project tasks and corresponds with other project team members
  • Collaborates with other ACEEE teams and external partners on multi-sector projects
  • Participates in committee and working group meetings
  • Writes blog posts and develops presentations

Expectations

  • Experience with transportation sustainability, multimodal transportation, and/or transportation electrification
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills, articulate, and thoughtful
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to cross-disciplinary research and teams
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to balance multiple deadlines and contribute to complex, multi-partner projects
  • Excellent writing and oral presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, including experience working with quantitative and qualitative data and spreadsheets
  • Demonstrates initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated passion for clean energy, environmental issues, and social justice
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and disseminate complex or large amounts of data and information
  • Professionalism, poise, and the ability to work as part of a team, maintain a sense of humor, and interact with a diverse array of people, including high-level stakeholders

Required Education and Experience

A degree in transportation planning, public policy, engineering, economics, environmental studies, or another similar field

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience, or
  • Master's degree and one or more years of experience

Preferred start date: November 2026. The position can be located in Washington, DC, or remote (US only).

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary range is $57,378 -$71,722, and includes ACEEE's generous benefits package, including health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 403(b) retirement plan; transportation and bike-share benefits; three (3) weeks of vacation in the first year and four (4) weeks thereafter, 12 days of sick leave, 10 federal holidays and office-wide closure for the week between Christmas and New Year's. This is a full-time, exempt position.
