The School of Electrical Engineering is now looking for a Professor, Renewable energy in electrical power systems. The position is to be filled at any level of the Aalto University tenure track system (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor). The position is full-time and depending on the positioning on the tenure track, either on fixed or permanent term. The position is located in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation (EEA) (http://eea.aalto.fi/en/). At EEA, scientists and engineers from different fields interact and work together by crossing over traditional boundaries to solve the most challenging scientific and technological problems, to provide excellent education and to produce wellbeing for the society. Research at EEA is organized in three focus areas: 1) Power systems and energy conversion, 2) Control, robotics and autonomous systems, and 3) Health technology. Because of the interdisciplinary nature, EEA partner network covers a large share of Finnish and international industries starting from the energy sector to manufacturing industries, including many machinery production companies, medical sector, cities and public organizations, and service providers. There have been several spin-off companies utilizing the research results.

Your role and goals

The position is intended for an expert in electrical engineering who would excel in research and teaching on integrating variable renewable energy sources, especially wind or solar, into the evolving power system. The successful candidate is expected to have a solid understanding of the modern power system and its development towards smart grids. Additionally, the candidate should master power electronics needed for the integration and the system control. Understanding of electric energy storages is considered as an advantage. We are looking for applicants with:

  • A doctorate in electrical engineering,or another applicable field
  • A proven ability and passion to carry out high-quality research and publish in top venues
  • Potential to attract research funding and independently build up own research group
  • An interest to collaborate with industry
  • Ability to build a high-level international collaboration network
  • Motivation to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels
