Design Engineer

TE Connectivity's Product Management Teams manage all aspects of a product, from driving new product development to manufacturing to marketing. They are responsible for overall product strategy, business leadership and capacity plans in order to meet sales and profit targets.

TE Connectivity, Energy Division is currently seeking a Design Engineer – Solar & BESS specialized in utility scale solar.

Technical Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop Solar PV design/construction packages including solar array layouts, electrical SLD, collection systems, collection system studies (Cable Ampacity, Power Losses), and equipment installation details for Utility Scale Solar PV systems (5-500MW+).
• Perform analysis and evaluations to determine the most cost-effective DC Collection System designs for Utility Scale Solar PV Systems (5-500MW+).
• Support development of early-stage projects with conceptual designs and material take-offs (pre-LNTP).
• Manage external subcontractors for other adjacent services.
• Interact directly with clients for successful project execution.
• Use Excel spreadsheets, commercial and proprietary engineering software to design Solar PV systems.
• Potential site visits to gather notes and take pictures of existing conditions to aid in design and identify critical flaws.
• Contribute to continual development of internal solar engineering standards, toolsets, and work processes.
• Turning initial system conceptual ideas into fully developed optimized EPC designs.

Other Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and execute process improvements and the development of policies, procedures, methods, and tools in support of delivery.
• Responsibilities include supporting pre-sales processes and working with sales and account management professionals to win new business; implementing business; proposal review and refinement; recruiting and staff development.
• Research and development in solar technology for new product development and stay current on new technological developments in the field. Generates new ideas, goes beyond the status quo; recognizes the need for new or modified approaches.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read, comprehend and apply electrical codes and/or standards (NEC 690-691, NEC 310, IEC 62548, IEC 62738).
• Design knowledge in other renewable areas such as Energy Storage, High Voltage underground cable systems is a plus.
• Experience with estimating or designing electrical systems is mandatory.
• Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, NEC/NBR requirements, and construction practices.
• The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.

Requirements

• Electrical Engineering Degree.
• Education or experience with power systems analysis and design.
• Approximately 1-3 in the electrical engineering of electrical power/distribution systems, particularly renewable energy facilities.
• Proficiency use of Excel and AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of electrical codes/standards (NEC, NBR, AEA, NTC, IEC, IEEE).
• Experience with cable sizing (ampacity, voltage drop, short-circuit).
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including study report writing.
• Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
• Strong operational, project management, consulting technology and process skills.
• Functional expertise with PVSyst or SAM for PV analysis – Desired –
• Experience with power systems modeling software such as CYMCAP, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, PSLF, or similar software – Not a must –
• Experience with performance of electrical system studies – load flow and reactive power, short circuit, cable ampacity analysis – Not a must –
