The Platform Specialist supports the overall health of the Vestas fleet by collecting, analyzing, benchmarking, and presenting detailed performance data including Lost Production Factor (LPF), Availability, Direct Cost, and technical contributors for their focus Platform. Supports and collaborates with external customers, field services, quality, construction, and other technical functions and commercial teams. Collaboratively creates effective mechanisms for disseminating actionable technical solutions and upgrade opportunities to sites. Works closely with Technical Support to validate effective solutions to common problems affecting the fleet. Supports the business case creation and validation for component, system, and turbine software upgrades. Is a Platform interface with Vestas Power Solutions (VPS). As needed, interacts with customers on technical issues in support of their sites.

Location: Preferred location is Portland, OR but will also consider candidates located remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to understand, interpret and articulate complex technical issues and how changes made to Vestas and non-Vestas product may impact the turbine performance, behavior and capability
  • Make performance improvement recommendations and obtain approval for, and implement changes to existing documentation, work instructions, technical customer communications and testing methods
  • Provide detailed and data driven input based on observations, experience and feedback that influence the upgrade product roadmaps. Make recommendations regarding changes to improve all facets of turbine systems, design and documentation
  • Evaluate wind turbine operation data including performance metrics, wind data, fault logs, complex system issues, etc. by use of statistical analysis methods to benchmark and improve wind turbine performance Analyses to include root-cause determination, technical resolution, and implementation. Make recommendations and customer presentations regarding the same
  • Serve as a contact for Operations Engineering with VPS on turbine performance, issue resolution and technology. Interpret and disseminate turbine technical information for VAME. Make significant input to plans, proposals and technical documents. Provide recommendations to Vestas Power Solutions
  • Provide structured training as necessary to ensure their developed tools, knowledge and skills are available and utilized by relevant stakeholders
  • Write, review, and present technical reports, presentations, and customer communications to internal, external, local, and global stakeholders
  • Occasionally support customers and third parties in the WTG sales process as well as occasional sales calls if detailed platform technical expertise is required
  • Uphold, adhere to, and promote safe practices
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 20%

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering from an accredited university
  • 5-10 years of experience in the wind industry required

Competencies

  • Comprehensive technical understanding of WTG mechanical and electrical systems, root cause analysis, reliability engineering, fault analysis, turbine availability, performance, and efficiency improvements
  • High proficiency in critical analysis and problem resolution; equipped to handle voluminous data, conduct statistical inquiries, and establish well-founded, reproducible answers to convoluted questions
  • Skilled in conveying information in English, with an emphasis on clear verbal, written, and presentation aptitudes. Achieves work results through thoughtful planning and productive actions
  • Commitment to customer service, quality, and continuous improvement in processes and knowledge sharing
  • Flexibility, collaborative spirit, unity in action, and creative problem-solving
