We currently have an exciting career opportunity for an R&D Quality Projects Lead within the technology team reporting to the Senior Program Manager for Monitoring & Diagnostics (M&D), within Grid Automation (GA).

The M&D product line is a class leading vendor of sensing devices and systems to Electrical Utilities and Industrial customers. The product line spans sensing of multiple asset types and has a broad portfolio of advanced technology, which aid customers to understand and optimize the operating condition of key assets such as HV/MV power transformers and circuit breakers.

You will work among a talented and motivated R&D team, applying technologies such as On-line Dissolved Gas Measurement (DGA), Bushing Measurement & Partial Discharge (PD).

The R&D Quality Projects Lead will drive continuous improvement projects leveraging the 8D process focused on design related issues. In addition to implementation of containment and corrective actions; the Quality Projects lead will also drive transformational change through implementation of preventative actions and lessons learnt back into the New Product Introduction (NPI) and Engineering Change (ECO) processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate key R&D Quality improvement projects in M&D Transformer monitoring products, driving the strategy for project tracking, status updates and business visibility.
  • Work with M&D Quality Leader, customer services team and product managers and key business stakeholders to identify key 8D project opportunities.
  • Identify project resourcing requirements and work with engineering leaders and cross functional teams to set up 8D teams.
  • Facilitate cross functional 8D teams, bringing appropriate level of focus at key stages: Containment, Root Cause, Corrective and Preventative actions. You will also be expected to lead a percentage of the 8D’s.
  • Ensure appropriate project management tools used to track action implementation.
  • Ensure special focus applied to identification and implementation of preventative actions to address gaps and improvement opportunities in the NPI and ECO processes.
  • Provide regular KPI status update to M&D leadership.
  • Assist with other project management activities as required.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree level education in an Engineering or Scientific background, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience of problem-solving in using quality tools in an industrial setting to identify root cause and implement improvement actions.
  • Demonstrated experience of leading & managing small project teams to deliver on time on challenging technical projects.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated experience on product development with electromechanical products, including interface with embedded software.

Desired Criteria

  • Technical understanding of M&D transformer monitoring products, technology and processes, and relevant critical-to-quality design and operation principles.
  • Understanding of key customer quality challenges and product application areas for M&D products to help inform quality improvement projects and prioritisation.
  • Hands-on experience operating and testing electromechanical products in an industrial setting.
  • Management experience with direct reports and/or dotted-line teams in a matrixed work environment.
