Amber is an entirely new way to buy and sell power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy. We give customers direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price as it varies every 5 mins and the technology to shift more of their energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid. It's a cheaper way to buy power, a smarter way to sell power, and the fastest way for Australia to reach 100% renewable energy.

We are a clear category leader in Australia for home battery automation and are growing rapidly (over 90k customers). We have also recently expanded into licensing our core technology to utilities overseas, including a partnership with E.ON Next in the UK.

Amber is backed by top Australian and international investors including Square Peg, Main Sequence, Breakthrough Victoria, Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack, ETF Partners (UK/Europe based), and E.ON Next.

We are scaling rapidly and you'd be joining a team of over 200 committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and purpose-driven culture as we transform a major industry.

Our products are reshaping home energy: Amber for Batteries cuts bills by exporting stored energy at wholesale prices of up to $20/kWh, and Amber for EVs enables the cheapest, cleanest charging. In 2026, we will push this even further with our new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.

About the role

This is a big nine months. In the next quarters Amber will be working to extend our position as Australia's leader in home battery automation, expand our world-leading vehicle-to-grid product, and continue to share our growth playbook with our licensing partners who are some of the largest utilities in the world. We need someone to pick up the reins on brand through all of that, keep the story sharp, and hand back a stronger function than they found it.

You will lead Brand Strategy, Above-the-line, PR & Comms (including Content and Social), Community, and Product Marketing, managing an established team of five, with the ability to bring in freelancers and agencies where you need extra hands. You'll report directly to the CMO and be a strong voice in the leadership group for marketing.

This is genuinely a nine month fixed term parental leave contract, so we cannot promise an ongoing role at the end. That said, Amber is growing and evolving quickly, and we would always be open to exploring future opportunities if there is a strong mutual fit.

Why this is an exciting role

  • A real seat at the table. You report directly to the CMO, sit on the Growth Leadership Team, and work with other leaders across the business. You're not buried under layers of sign-off.
  • Climate impact you can point to. Every campaign you run pushes real households towards batteries, EVs and cheaper, cleaner power. Not brand purpose as a slogan.
  • A team that's already strong. Five experienced marketers who you can help to supercharge even further. You're pointing something good at a bigger target.
  • Making a difference quickly. If you can walk in, make a real mark fast, and hand back something stronger than ever, this role is built for exactly that.

Responsibilities

  • Own Amber's brand marketing plan across all programs, campaigns, and channels
  • Manage the team with the right balance of hands on and off. Empower and delegate but stay close enough to the work to spot problems and opportunities early
  • Sit on the Growth Leadership Team, partnering with peers across Growth Marketing, Sales, and Product Growth to keep the wider growth team pointed the same direction
  • Keep Amber's story sharp. Align Sales, Product and PR in explaining Amber well
  • Work with Design team on brand identity and guidelines, so things stay consistent across marketing and product
  • Work with Product and Operations to make sure the brand promise matches the real user experience
  • Set the goals and the numbers that prove brand marketing is working, not just busy

Key Requirements

  • 8+ years in marketing, brand or creative leadership, ideally with real budget and growth target ownership
  • You bridge big-brand thinking with startup/scaleup pace. You know what great brand marketing looks like at scale, and you know how to apply it in the context of a growing brand
  • Comfortable operating at the strategic level and getting hands-on with execution, leaders are 'senior doers' at Amber
  • Experience running large-scale campaigns end to end, from the idea through to creative and content and the distribution methods that get it in front of people
  • A point of view on what Amber's brand should be doing next, and the confidence to argue for it
  • A communicator who can hold their own with an exec, a designer and a journalist in the same week
  • You've done this before at speed. You'll need to read the team, the brand and the priorities fast, and start contributing in your first few days and weeks
  • You don't need an energy background. It helps to have a passion to learn about energy, but everything above matters more.

Benefits

  • We're committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world.
  • You'd be a part of a rapidly growing team of over 200 with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations.
  • Be part of a growing technology start-up that will shape the future of household and grid energy use.
  • Enjoy a lively, collaborative workspace at our buzzing Melbourne CBD headquarters in the heart of the city
  • Flexible working hours with provision for regular work from home arrangements.
  • Equitable gender-neutral parental leave policies.
  • An external Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) for mental health support.
  • Annual Learning & Development budget to support your personal growth.
  • Additional PTO between Xmas & New Year

$180,000 - $220,000 a year

Salary range is between $180,000 and $220,000 base per annum and is quoted excluding superannuation.

If this kind of work gets you excited, we'd love to hear from you!

We know that no one ticks every single box in a job description, and that's okay. If this role excites you and you feel you could bring value, we would love to hear from you even if your experience doesn't line up 100% with the list above.

At Amber, we believe diverse teams create the best ideas and outcomes. We welcome people from all walks of life and especially encourage applications from underrepresented groups. We are committed to creating an environment where everyone has equal opportunity to thrive regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability.

This is a full-time role to be based ideally from Melbourne, but we are also open to considering the right candidate anywhere within Australia.

We are currently not looking to relocate people for this role, but are open to sponsoring existing candidates within Australia who hold a current working visa.

We are also open to discussing 4 days a week or 9 days a fortnight once you're ramped up, if that's what you are looking for.

Amber is a remote first team; we have an office in the Melbourne CBD, where we work flexibly between the office and home. The vast majority of our team are located in Melbourne. For those based in Sydney, they catch up in a co-working space in the city every now and then, and rest of the locations in Australia work from home. While we don't expect people to attend the office, we do expect that people mostly work in the Melbourne time zone to maximise collaboration.

How to Apply

Our hiring process will be as below:

  1. An initial screening interview with our talent team
  2. Interview with our CMO (Hiring and Reporting Manager)
  3. Take-home case study
  4. A follow-up case study panel interview
  5. Final conversation with members of our Executive Leadership Team

We promise to be respectful of your time as an applicant while trying to be as thorough as possible in finding the right fit for our team.

Applications will be accepted only from candidates already based in Australia, preferably Melbourne with full working rights!

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted promptly. All other applicants will also be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.

No recruitment agencies please. We've got this! Thank you.

Fundada

2017
