Functional area: Commercial / Trading
Your future plans
The energy transition is not waiting. Renewable energy, battery storage, data centers, electrification, and new load growth are all pushing the U.S. transmission grid harder than ever before. Every project now depends on one critical question: can the grid actually deliver it?
RWE is seeking a skilled and motivated (Senior) Transmission Manager to lead transmission analysis and generation interconnection studies in PJM and/or MISO. This position plays a vital role in advancing high-value greenfield development by addressing commercial risks, executing transmission strategies, and guiding technical studies that enable successful queue positions aligned with company goals. The role will work closely with the Interconnection Execution team, providing key transmission insight and analysis to ensure smooth advancement of projects through the interconnection process.
The ideal candidate will bring strong steady-state power-flow analysis skills, hands-on transmission or interconnection study experience, and the ability to translate complex technical results into clear project and business implications. The role will help strengthen internal technical capability, improve study quality, reduce reliance on external consultants, and support faster, better-informed decisions as project workload and ISO/RTO requirements continue to evolve.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform system-wide transmission analysis to identify and prioritize development in low-cost, high-capacity grid areas.
- Evaluate congestion patterns and basis risk to guide project siting and portfolio strategy.
- Lead and manage interconnection applications and queue positions during the cluster study phases in PJM and/or MISO.
- Analyze and review ISO interconnection study reports to identify potential errors, identify cost-saving opportunities, and develop alternative scenarios that strategically strengthen the project queue portfolio.
- Support congestion and deliverability screening, including ILTTR, FTR, TSR, basis-risk, and other market-relevant transmission analyses where applicable.
- Conduct or support Transmission Service Request studies related to NRIS needs, battery charging, deliverability, and other project-specific transmission service requirements.
- Conduct power flow analysis to support project development and M&A evaluations.
- Participate in ISO stakeholder processes, meetings, and working groups to stay aligned with queue reforms and changes.
- Develop, maintain, or support automation scripts and repeatable workflows for model processing, data analysis, quality checks, result validation, and reporting
Your powerful skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field; Master's degree or PhD is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical power systems; at least 3 years in generation interconnection.
- Strong knowledge of transmission planning, power flow analysis, and interconnection processes.
- Strong proficiency in TARA modules (e.g., PJM GD or MISO ERIS/NRIS or FCITC) is highly preferred, along with experience in PSSE and/or PSCAD. Working knowledge of PJM or MISO interconnection procedures, cost allocation rules, and market structures.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to improve existing processes rather than only execute routine tasks.
Advantageous, but not essential
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in one or more states.
- Previous experience in an IPP, ISO, utility, or as a transmission consultant.
- Experience with Python, SQL, VBA, or other programming tools used for automation, data analysis, model processing, or reporting.
- Involvement in market stakeholder processes or regulatory advocacy.
- Interest in applying AI-assisted workflows, coding tools, and automation to improve study efficiency and reduce manual work.
- Familiarity with due diligence for project acquisition or commercial transactions.
What we value most is technical curiosity, ownership, willingness to learn, and a resilient, collaborative work ethic. Even if you do not meet every requirement listed above, we would still like to hear from you.
