Job Description

PureVolt Solar, an SEAI-registered solar panel installation company, is currently hiring a Full-Time Head Electrician based in Dublin and East Ireland (Leinster). This is our most senior electrical role. You will be PureVolt's go-to person for difficult electrical work, regulations, fault finding and installation quality, leading our electrical teams on site and signing off on the standard of our installations.

You will be part of a growing team and will play a key role in every installation project. Through our generous bonus structure, you will have a direct stake in the success of our company and know your contributions are valued and recognised. You can view the equipment we use and the quality of our workmanship here.

What will your day-to-day duties be as Head Electrician?

  • Plan and carry out complex electrical work on our solar PV installations, including wiring, panel building, inverter connections and live testing.
  • Take overall responsibility for the physical quality of our installations on site.
  • Supervise and mentor our electricians, apprentices and general operatives.
  • Carry out the formal testing and verification of completed installations and sign completion certificates.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on solar inverters, battery storage systems and other equipment.
  • Make sure every installation meets the SEAI Domestic Solar PV Code of Practice and the national wiring rules (I.S. 10101).
  • Complete the grid connection paperwork for our installations.
  • Commission inverters, connect them to Wi-Fi and walk homeowners through using their new system.
  • Keep the team service-ready, from standard van stock to app and portal access.
  • Mentor the team, share what you learn, and help us keep improving how we work.

What qualifications do you need to work as Head Electrician at PureVolt?

This is our most senior electrical role, so the bar is set high. The main requirement is that you must be a fully qualified Electrician with the National Electrical Craft Certificate, with substantial experience working on domestic installations. Here's the full list:

Essential skills / attributes

  • Fully qualified Electrician with National Craft Certificate Electrical (required)
  • Substantial post-qualification experience working in domestic installation settings
  • Regular solar or renewable installation experience
  • Legally able to supervise apprentices and general operatives
  • An excellent knowledge of health & safety guidelines
  • Full clean Irish driving licence
  • Safe Pass and Manual Handling Certificate in place before the start date
  • A natural leader who takes ownership and pushes jobs over the line

Desirable skills / attributes

  • Already a Qualified Certifier (QC), or ready to sit the course - we will pay for the qualification if you don't have it already
  • Experience diagnosing faults on inverters and battery storage systems
  • Experience commissioning inverters and showing homeowners how to use their system
  • Familiarity with SEAI paperwork and grid connection forms
  • Working knowledge of earthing and ferrule standards
  • A track record of mentoring junior electricians or improving team standards
  • Experience and comfort helping with work on roofs

International Applicants & Foreign Qualifications

Please note that this is a fully qualified, senior role. To be considered for this position, you must be able to work as a fully qualified electrician in Ireland.

If you trained outside of the Republic of Ireland, you must already possess:

  • Official approval via the CRU's Electrical Recognition Process for International Qualifications (a standard QQI NARIC comparability statement is not sufficient).
  • An active Qualified Certifier (QC) Number registered with Safe Electric, or formal confirmation that you are immediately eligible to obtain one.
  • Proof of completing Irish Wiring Rules training (to I.S. 10101:2020 standards).
  • A valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certificate.

Training provided

This is a senior role for a qualified electrician, not an apprenticeship. You will receive full training on the specific solar systems, inverters and battery storage brands we install, so you can focus on what you do best.

If you don't already have your Electrical Testing and Verification qualification (QC), then we will pay for you to do this and become a Qualified Certifier. This is a great qualification to have and will help you to progress in your career.

Does it matter if I have no experience in Solar?

For this senior role, regular solar or renewable installation experience is essential. If you are a qualified electrician with strong experience in another area and you would like to move into solar, take a look at our Electrician role - we provide full training there.

How does a solar installation work?

1. Initial enquiry

When a customer contacts us, we do an initial quote with details of the size of the system. We use our specialised software to look up the property on Google Maps and then design the most appropriate system to suit their circumstances and needs. We take into account the direction the property is facing, the pitch and type of roof, the client's current annual consumption, and the times they are most likely to consume the most.

2. Site survey

Once the initial system design is approved, our head engineer then visits the site to conduct a complete survey of the property. He inspects, measures and ensures everything on the original quote will work and notes any modifications needed. This is to ensure that when you turn up, you have everything you need to complete the job and there are no surprises.

3. Final design

Once this is complete, a final system design is drawn up and distributed to the team, including you, with full details of exactly what is required.

4. Scheduling

Once we confirm the delivery of materials and equipment to the site, we agree an installation date with the client.

5. Panel installation

Then the Dublin team roofer will complete the first part of the project by installing the solar panels on the roof.

6. Electrical work

Once that is complete, you and your electrical team will complete the electrical part of the project and bring the system into commission.

Working for PureVolt Solar - Is this job right for you?

We're a small and friendly team who have each other's backs. We're proud of our workplace culture, and we're looking for people who can help us to build it further. Before we add anyone to our team, we always want to be sure that they share our mindset when it comes to efficiency, hard work and doing what's right for the customer.

An established, SEAI-registered company

PureVolt Solar is a fully certified, SEAI-registered solar PV installation company. We pride ourselves on executing safe, compliant, and highly efficient renewable energy systems across Ireland. When you join us, you are joining an authoritative, trusted entity in the Irish green energy sector.

Who you're working with

Our office team is a mix of solar specialists on the one hand, and marketing / tech nerds on the other. Our installers are the best in the business - we only work with people who meet our high standards. The marketing guys are the reason we usually have more enquiries than we can install. The tech nerds are the reason our installers never show up to a job with the wrong parts.

As Head Electrician, you will also be the face of PureVolt while you are at the customer's house. Whenever we get a five-star review, it will be in large part because you maintained PureVolt's standards of tidiness, workmanship and good communication. This is what we're about.

We believe in solar

Our people really care about what we do here. We want to help Ireland go green, and we want to help people to make the right decisions for themselves when it comes to reducing their energy bills. If you believe in solar and you care about how it benefits both the customer and the environment, we would really love to speak with you.

We're giving away all of our profits to good causes

Our founder created PureVolt to make a difference, not to make a profit. That's why we're giving away all of our profits to good causes in Ireland - in the form of free solar panels. More solar panels on rooftops means less carbon emissions (this is why we exist). And if the people and organisations under those roofs are doing good for their community, well that's even better! If you know a charity who would benefit from free clean energy, please tell them about our free solar for good causes scheme.

Would you like to learn more about what it is like to work for PureVolt Solar?

If you think you might be interested in applying for this role, but would like to know what it is like to work for us, then please let us know. We will set things up for you to speak with one of our current employees and you can ask them anything you want, in complete confidentiality.

Hours and Location

Location: Dublin area & East of Ireland (Leinster). As Head Electrician, you may occasionally be required to travel to sites across PureVolt's full service area.

Full-time role. Monday to Friday (Flexitime) - 39 hours

Have any questions?

That is a good thing! We want to make sure you have every opportunity to assess us. Yes, we want you to be the right person for the role, but we also want to make sure you are happy that this is the right role and company for you. Please, if you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to get in touch. We would be only too happy to help.

How to apply

To apply, please email us a cover letter and your CV to [email protected]

We are actively reviewing applications and scheduling interviews as they arrive. If we find the perfect fit for the team, we may make a hiring decision quickly, so an early application is highly encouraged.

Recruitment Process

  • We will be shortlisting candidates based on their submitted CV and Cover Letter.
  • Shortlisted candidates will progress to a short phone interview.
  • Finally, we will arrange for the shortlisted candidates to attend in-person interviews.
