Project Engineer (Ontwerp)

Join SP Energy Networks as a Project Engineer (Design) and play a vital role in shaping the future of our district distribution network. You'll be at the forefront of planning and designing electrical infrastructure up to 11kV, ensuring network security and integrity while delivering projects typically valued at circa £5m. This role offers the opportunity to apply innovative engineering solutions that balance customer needs with efficient network design, all while enabling Scotland's Net Zero targets. You'll manage connection requests, undertake system evaluation to establish load and generation connections, and develop network reinforcement solutions that improve the safety and longevity of our electrical infrastructure. Working within our Planning & Design team, you'll help drive the rapid growth in renewable energy that our communities rely on.

What you'll be doing

• Manage the regulatory aspects of connection requests and provide quotations, ensuring all processes meet regulatory and licence requirements
• Work within defined scope, volumes, and unit costs to deliver best value from regulatory contracts while maintaining the highest standards of network integrity
• Integrate asset stewardship through sound engineering practices, coordinating planning, design, and ownership activities to improve network safety and longevity while minimizing scheme costs for customer connections
• Manage third-party Point of Connection and design approvals activities within the SPM and SPD licence areas
• Produce designs in accordance with unit or authorized prime costs, enabling efficient delivery of outputs
• Drive continuous performance improvement through evaluation of outputs and feedback from internal and external sources
• Consider technological, procedural, and commercial solutions to enhance all designs through innovation
• Develop robust stakeholder and customer relationships on behalf of ScottishPower, facilitating delivery of strategic priorities
• Work closely with Local Authorities, Housing Associations, and Independent Network Operators, ensuring programmes of work complement local activities and aspirations
• Promote an exemplary safety culture, ensuring all safety legislation is implemented and delivered through all activities and incorporated into project designs
• Plan your workload and daily activities to meet team goals, ensuring completion of all designs within relevant guaranteed standards and licence conditions
• Contribute to the district's medium and long-term network plan spanning 3 months to 3 years

What you'll bring

• Engineering or professional qualification, or equivalent experience that demonstrates your technical capability
• Experience in a network design role
• Relevant network construction and operational experience that gives you practical insight into how designs translate to real-world infrastructure
• Thorough knowledge of design standards up to 11kV
• Familiarity with the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms
• Developed skills with network evaluation modelling tools, enabling you to devise solutions to complex problems and requirements
• General commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer service, efficient network design, and maximum return on investment
• Effective stakeholder and customer service engagement skills
• Ability to communicate and present information clearly at all levels of the organization
• Capability to manage multiple priorities using sound engineering and financial judgement to identify optimal solutions
• Awareness of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which ScottishPower operates
• Computer literacy to work with various digital tools and systems daily
• Ability to make balanced judgements, taking into account all available information, consulting with others when applicable, and anticipating possible outcomes
• Technical and operational experience that enables you to plan effectively and contribute meaningfully to team goals
