Job Summary
The International Strategies Associate Fellow will support the International Team at the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) in advancing key priorities under the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The role will involve research, analysis, and engagement on a wide range of international climate policy issues as needed, including mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage, climate action, transparency, just transitions, energy efficiency, carbon markets, and climate finance. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to policy-relevant research, publications, stakeholder engagement, and communications while supporting C2ES's role as a trusted convener and thought leader in international climate policy.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Conduct independent research and analysis on international climate policy issues, particularly within the UNFCCC process
- Track, monitor, and report on global climate policy developments, including key countries, target geographical regions, and institutions (e.g., International Energy Agency, IPCC, UNDP Climate Promise)
- Draft and support production of reports, policy briefs, blogs, web content, and presentations
- Support implementation of the international team's communications strategy, including managing publications pipelines
- Assist with planning, coordination, and logistics for events, workshops, briefings, and convenings
- Participate in webinars, in-person events, and (as applicable) UNFCCC meetings, including intersessional meetings
- Support stakeholder engagement by helping to build and maintain relationships with governments, institutions, and other partners
- Contribute to C2ES engagement in UNFCCC negotiations, the Global Climate Action Agenda, and related processes
- Provide support for proposals, consultants or third-party contributors, as needed
- Contribute to a positive organizational culture, including by participating in regular events such as all-staff meetings and meetings of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Council, and by seeking to model the organization's values.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) and a minimum of two years familiarity with international climate policy and institutions, particularly the UNFCCC and Paris Agreement.
- Strong knowledge of specific thematic areas such as mitigation, climate finance, adaptation, loss and damage or carbon markets
- Proven research, analytical, and writing skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Teams, Zoom)
- Fluency in English

Reporting to the Senior Manager, International Strategies. This role will also work closely with other members of the international team, including the Vice President, International Strategies.
Status: Associate Fellow: Full-time, benefits-eligible, term-limited contract of one year (extension contingent on funding).
Starting Salary Range: $67,000 - $84,000

Travel, Time & Location Requirements
- C2ES operates a hybrid work environment from our main office in Washington, D.C and physical presence in the office is expected three days per week.
- In-person participation in events and meetings in Washington, DC, as appropriate
- Potential virtual or in-person participation in UNFCCC meetings, including intersessional sessions
- Some travel may be required to attend international meetings.
Benefits Offered

C2ES offers 80% of premiums for a specific platinum-level health insurance reference plan, the dollar value of which may be applied to any platinum-level plan offered to us on the DC Health Link marketplace. The remainder of the premiums for the plan chosen by the employee will be deducted pretax from the employee's paycheck.
