The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Aarhus University, invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications, position in environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) of the built environment with emphasis on building design and operation. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled candidate to enhance our research and teaching focused on reducing the environmental impact of the built environment.
Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position, starting from 1st Feb 2027 or as soon as possible.
Job description
The selected candidate will contribute to advancing knowledge on reducing the environmental impacts of buildings and building products to support transition toward a sustainable built environment. The position is part of the strategic initiative to develop research capabilities in LCA and circularity. It is expected that the candidate is or will become able to attract substantial external funding for independent or collaborative research with national and international stakeholders. In addition, the candidate will actively contribute to teaching in courses on B.Sc., M.Sc. and the development of new courses.
Your profile
The candidate is expected to have a PhD degree in Building Science Engineering, Civil and Architectural Engineering, Material Science, or a closely related field, with focus on application of LCA to design and operation of buildings and neighbourhoods. If the applicant is applying for the Tenure Track Assistant Professor position, the experience of Postdoc or similar is required. If the applicant is applying for the Associate Professor position, then a previous position as an Assistant Professor or similar is needed.
The candidates are expected to have:
- Demonstrated experience in LCA applied to buildings.
- An extensive publication record of peer-reviewed journal articles, with an upward trend, in application of LCA to the built environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in interdisciplinary teams.
- Relevant teaching experience (depending on whether the position is assistant or associate) and commitment to high-quality teaching and mentorship.
- Willingness to contribute to a good work environment.
The following qualifications are considered an advantage:
- Experience in development of environmental product declarations.
- Experience in LCA on neighbourhood scale.
- Experience with industrial collaboration.
- Experience in securing research funding or contributing to research proposals.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modelling or decision-support systems.
- Experience of programme coding such as Python, MATLAB.
