Job Description

At OVO, we are on a mission to solve one of humanity's biggest challenges, the climate crisis. And we know it takes all of us to change the world. That's why we need diverse people from all abilities, gender identities, ethnicities, ages, sexual orientations, life experiences and backgrounds to join us.

Teamworking for the planet

Everything we do here spins around Plan Zero. So, naturally, the team you'll be joining plays a gigantic role in making that happen. Here's how:

We're currently building OVO's decarbonisation business - OVO Solar & Heating. A franchise network of multi-capability renewables installers. Set up within the security of OVO, but given the freedom of a start-up.

We want to make a real dent in the renewables landscape in the UK and we firmly believe stitching together the best of local with the benefits of a big company is the way to do that.

This role probably won't be for everyone. You'll have to be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, able to roll your sleeves up and get stuff done and be able to deal with a high degree of change.

This role in a nutshell

We're obviously biased, but we think this is a really exciting role for someone already well versed in construction health and safety.

In this role, you'll be supporting the Compliance Lead in assessing and improving the safety of the franchisee network. This will be through conducting regular site visits and desktop reviews of completed installations, then analysing and presenting this data back to both franchisees and internal OVO teams.

A franchise business model means that the feedback from these assessments is more than often in the form of support and guidance, so it is really important to have an ability to build and maintain strong relationships and use these to help influence outcomes. We need a great communicator who is experienced in health and safety, open to continually learning and able to mentor franchisees to operate with the highest H&S standards.

We are currently scaling OVO Solar & Heating which means you'll need to be adaptable to changing circumstances and have the confidence to support the franchisee's through potential periods of uncertainty.

Don't worry if you don't tick all of the boxes RE: criteria. We're really focused on attitude over aptitude - so please apply.

Your key outcomes will be

Franchisee assessment compliance

  • Completion of the required number of site and remote assessments for each assigned franchisee.
  • Reviewing assessments completed by franchisees to ensure these are being done to the correct standards and frequency.
  • Feedback to individual franchisees with the outcomes of the assessments and agreeing any required next steps.
  • Owning the OVO S&H platform which provides the information for all of the above.

Incident and Accidents

  • Managing the reporting of near misses, incident and accidents across the franchise network.
  • Working with franchisees to ensure suitable and adequate investigations are completed as needed, following any reported events.
  • Compiling trend analysis that can be discussed with the OVO Solar & Heating leadership team and the wider OVO Group.

Onboarding process management

  • Owning the process of onboarding new franchisees.
  • Organising the successful receipt and suitable documenting of the required information from prospective franchisees.
  • Reviewing franchisee requests to use subcontractors

Franchisee annual compliance review

  • Annual visit to each franchisee to review their accreditations, policies and procedures and ensure these are still valid and relevant, as at the point of onboarding.
  • Compiling actions plans, as required, following these visits and monitoring the successful completion of these.

You'll be a successful Manager at OVO if you have...

  • Proven experience in a safety-based role, ideally within franchising or construction/trade-based industries.
  • Safety qualifications, or evidence of working towards these, which would be beneficial (NEBOSH General Certificate or other at similar level).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong coaching and mentoring approach.
  • Experience working with Safety Culture or other similar safety reporting platforms.
  • Ability to manage a geographically dispersed network of franchisees with autonomy and initiative.
  • Background in or familiarity with renewable energy technologies (especially Solar PV, batteries, heat pumps, EV charging).
  • Understanding of UK renewables regulations (e.g., MCS, RECC, DNO, G98/G99 compliance etc).

Let's talk about what's in it for you

We'll pay you between £45,000 and £55,000, depending on your specific skills and experience.
