Careers at Helion Energy

Last updated on 2025-04-22 | Report an issue

We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone.

Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised over $1 billion from long-time investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group as well as new investors SoftBank and Lightspeed to propel us forward. Our last prototype, Trenta, completed 10,000 high-power pulses and reached plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV). We are now operating Polaris, our next prototype on the path to the world's first fusion power plant.

This is a pivotal time to join Helion. You will tackle real-world challenges with a team that prizes urgency, rigor, ownership, and a commitment to delivering hard truths - values essential to achieving what no one has before. Together, we will change the future of energy, because the world can't wait.

What You Will Be Doing

As an Electrical Systems Engineer, you will be at the center of bringing our next-generation fusion machine hardware to life. You'll own the integration of electrical subsystems into a cohesive, reliable system, ensuring that power, control, and communication networks work seamlessly together. You'll design and deliver the electrical harnesses that connect our machines, manage the interfaces between disciplines through clear requirements and ICDs, and work directly with suppliers to bring critical hardware into production. This role blends detailed hands-on engineering with system-level ownership, ideal for engineers who thrive at both detail and system scales. You will report to the Electrical Engineering Lead, and this is an onsite role located at our Everett, WA office.

You Will

  • Own the integration of electrical components and subsystems into full systems
  • Define, maintain, and enforce system-level requirements and interface control documents (ICDs) across electrical, mechanical, and/or software teams
  • Lead the design, documentation, and validation of electrical harnesses, ensuring manufacturability, reliability, and compliance with standards
  • Collaborate with and manage harness suppliers-delivering build packages, reviewing prototypes, and qualifying production deliveries
  • Work hands-on in the lab during system bring-up, debugging integration issues, and validating end-to-end functionality
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure subsystem designs align with top-level system goals and requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement in integration processes, test strategies, and documentation practices

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical system integration, test, or design engineering
  • Strong background in electrical schematics, harness design, and interconnect systems
  • Experience writing, maintaining, and enforcing system-level requirements and ICDs
  • Proficiency with CAD/eCAD tools for harness and schematic design (Altium, NX, etc ).
  • Hands-on experience with system bring-up, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, DMMs, spectrum analyzers, etc.)
  • Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate clearly in technical and non-technical settings
  • Strong documentation discipline and ability to manage supplier deliverables

Helion's compensation package includes a competitively benchmarked base salary, meaningful equity grants, and comprehensive benefits. Final compensation is determined through a holistic evaluation of your experience, qualifications, and our commitment to internal equity - ensuring fairness and transparency across our teams. We are committed to fostering a fair and equitable environment in every aspect of our operations, including compensation.

This is an exempt salaried role.

Annual Base Pay

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision plans for employees and their families
  • 31 Days of PTO (21 vacation days and 10 sick days)
  • 10 Paid holidays, plus company-wide winter break
  • Up to 5% employer 401(k) match
  • Short term disability, long term disability, and life insurance
  • Paid parental leave and support (up to 16 weeks)
