Role
We are seeking a mechanical design engineer with a focus on electrical hardware integration, to develop and optimise our innovative wave energy converters. You will be part of the mechanical group and will collaborate across electrical, software, control, supply chain as well as integration and testing teams.
Responsibilities
- Module owner of Wave Energy Converter subsystems
- Bridge the mechanical and electrical - integrating electrical hardware in a safe, accessible and space-efficient manner
- Produce 3D models & 2D drawings of frames, supports, access equipment
- Perform engineering calculations & simulations (static structural, fatigue)
- Produce technical documentation
- Perform failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) at module level
- Manage your tasks to meet performance, schedule and budget targets
- Investigate new solutions to improve performance, manufacturability and reliability
- Support procurement activities including component and supplier selection, manufacturing and factory acceptance testing
- Perform assembly and testing of systems in our machine hall
- Support assembly, testing, and pilot installations in the field
Skills and qualifications
- You have 3+ years of relevant experience from designing mechanical systems & industrial equipment
- You have a BSc or a MSc. degree in mechanical engineering or related disciplines, but your personality, experience and interest in the field is the most important.
- You have proven end-to-end development - design, build, test and release - across multiple projects
- You have a broad technical knowledge and genuine interest in the different aspects of machinery and mechanical design. Knowledge of mooring, gearbox technology, pneumatics, hydraulics, structural optimization, fabrication, sensors, and/or electricity generation equipment is qualifying. Experience in design and analysis of welded frames and working to the machine directive (2006/42/EC) is highly valued.
- You have experience working with Creo CAD, Windchill PLM and ANSYS for structural analysis (or equivalent tools with willingness to get up to speed)
- You are proficient in English, both spoken and written, have strong communication skills and the ability to work in a small, agile team.
