Ameresco seeks an experienced Construction Leader to join our team as Director of Federal Construction. This role will oversee the successful delivery of complex Federal design-build projects, including mechanical and electrical upgrades, small-scale behind-the-meter solar and energy storage systems, building control upgrades, and other energy infrastructure improvements. The Director will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with all safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Federal construction projects, including performance contracting and ERCIP MATOC initiatives
  • Provide hands-on oversight to ensure quality, timely delivery, and budget adherence while exceeding client expectations
  • Support pricing proposals through subcontractor engagement, constructability reviews, and preparation of high-quality bid packages
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and cost tracking
  • Coordinate construction activities with engineering and senior management teams
  • Review key submittals for technical accuracy and quality assurance
  • Provide regular project status updates, documentation, and reporting to internal stakeholders
  • Identify and resolve challenges related to budget, schedule, and technical requirements
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, and jurisdictional safety standards and codes
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing construction team aligned with business objectives
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent technical experience
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical, mechanical, or industrial power construction project management with a focus on complex utilities, renewable energy, commercial, and Federal projects
  • Proven experience managing Federal Government projects

Additional Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in managing and developing teams with varying levels of experience
  • Experience overseeing multiple subcontractors and consultants on complex, multi-phase projects
  • Strong ability to manage competing priorities and maintain positive business relationships
  • Excellent verbal, written, and technical communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, MS Project, and cloud-based construction management software such as Procore
  • Valid driver's license in good standing
