We are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team in one of today's most exciting technologies. This role will report to the Senior Principal Engineer, Electrical Design Manager and will be based in San Jose, CA or Newark, DE. This is a fully on-site, in office role 5 days a week.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create electrical installation packages that detail how fuel cells will be installed at a customer's facility, adhering to the National Electric Code (NEC) and local jurisdiction requirements as needed.
  • Work closely with the remote engineering and drafting teams to support the initial design creation and AutoCAD drafting.
  • Design microgrids with fuel cell generation to ensure the physical installation meets all product specifications and the customers' needs.
  • Communicate engineering and technical data effectively by implementing project milestones through collaboration.
  • Provide technical support while working with 3rd party microgrid controllers.
  • Create Sequence of Operations to state how the fuel cells will transfer from paralleling with the utility to microgrid (island) operation.
  • Responsible for ensuring the electrical designs conform to specifications required for the implementation of Bloom Energy fuel cell systems.
  • Perform and review power systems studies that include, voltage drop, short-circuit, coordination, and Arc Flash.
  • Responsible for reviewing 3rd party designs and custom equipment solutions. Produce project specific drawings and documents as needed.
  • Support the Supply Chain Team by reviewing electrical equipment packages and ensuring they meet Bloom's specifications.
  • Interface directly with external parties as needed. This often includes customers, utilities, permitting authorities, inspectors, 3rd party design firms.

Skills Required

  • Technical knowledge, including: Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, Green Energy.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical system-level design fundamentals.
  • Strong design knowledge of Low Voltage, Medium Voltage (MV) systems, including protection and control schemes.
  • Knowledge of Inverter-based Grid-Forming and Grid-Following operation, including transition schemes between these modes.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong technical communication and collaboration.
  • Code knowledge, including NEC, NFPA, California Rule 21
  • Ability to be a self-starter and prioritize workload based on Bloom Energy's needs.
  • Must be intuitive and proactive. i.e., think many steps ahead towards the expected outcome and highlight potential risks to the Project Management Team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to excel in a professional environment with a lot of cross functional collaboration.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to drive complex tasks to closure.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam is a plus.

Education and Experience

  • B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in electrical engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years relevant work experience with B.S./M.S.
  • P.E. license in California strongly preferred
  • Relevant experience in power systems engineering, solar, or renewables.
  • Experience with Civil, Structural, and Plumbing details is a plus. Not required.
  • Construction, EPC, MEP, or facility maintenance experience is a plus.

Salary Ranges

$151,700.00 - $218,300.00
