Job Description
Adapture Renewables, Inc. is on a mission to be a leader in this new era of sustainable energy. Drawing upon an extensive knowledge base, we develop, finance, engineer, build, own, and operate high quality utility-scale photovoltaic projects and battery energy storage projects. Our Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team is looking for a talented O&M Field Technician to help support the efforts of our fast-growing company. Adapture Renewables is owned by KIRKBI Climate - the private holding and investment company of the Kirk Kristiansen family founded to build a sustainable future for the LEGO brand through generations.
Overview
This position will work within our O&M team (part of our Asset Management team), which is responsible for the technical management of a growing portfolio (currently 363 MW) of utility-scale renewable energy projects located across the United States. This team manages the operation of the portfolio, optimizing the fleet for maximum performance. The O&M Technician supports the safe, reliable operation of a portfolio of utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects located across the United States. This role is responsible for executing preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting equipment and system issues, supporting commissioning and warranty activities, and coordinating with internal teams and third-party service providers to minimize downtime and maximize plant performance. The O&M Technician works closely with the O&M Manager, monitoring team, and external contractors, and serves as a key field resource for diagnosing and resolving operational issues.
Core Responsibilities
Operations & Maintenance
- Can perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) on utility-scale solar and BESS assets.
- Troubleshoot and repair:
- PV modules, strings, combiner boxes, feeder circuits
- Central and string inverters
- Trackers (motors, actuators, controllers, sensors)
- Battery energy storage systems (PCS, battery racks, HVAC, fire detection)
- Support inverter and BESS warranty repairs and OEM-directed work.
- Assist with commissioning, energization, and onboarding of new projects.
- Work with internal engineers on any large scale redesign efforts.
- Manage MV/HV equipment, contractors, and coordinate proper testing protocols to maintain MV/HV equipment.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
- Respond to alarms and production issues identified by the monitoring team.
- Conduct remote and on-site troubleshooting, walking through root-cause analysis with supervisors and OEMs.
- Identify and resolve SCADA, DAS, and sensor issues impacting performance data quality.
- Support testing and validation of performance following repairs.
Field & Contractor Coordination
- Execute work orders with clear documentation of labor, materials, and findings.
- Manage and potentially support third-party O&M providers and specialty contractors during site work.
- Assist with site upkeep including fencing, access roads, erosion, vegetation, and security systems as required.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety, environmental, and site access requirements.
- Support internal teams on integrating more AgriVoltaic practices into the day to day site management.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA, NFPA 70E, and site-specific safety procedures.
- Participate in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), and energized work planning.
- Work alongside our Asset Management team to maintain compliance with environmental, landowner, transmission and regulatory requirements.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete accurate work order and maintenance reports.
- Revise SOPs to ensure that effective outcomes are achieved efficiently.
- Document root causes, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
- Advise internal engineering team on product selection and updated design specifications.
- Support inventory tracking of spare parts and tools.
Qualifications and Experience
Required
- 4+ years of experience in utility-scale and large DG solar O&M (solar technician, field service technician, or similar role).
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting utility-scale PV systems.
- Familiarity with inverters, trackers, combiner boxes, and DAS/SCADA systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics, one-lines, and mechanical drawings.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Willingness to travel and work in outdoor environments.
Preferred
- Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS).
- OEM certifications (e.g., Sungrow, TMEIC, SMA, SMA Sunny Central, Fluence, Powin).
- OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, CPR/First Aid.
- Experience working with CMMS platforms, monitoring tools, along with 3rd party OEM software platforms. (e.g., PowerFactors, Salesforce, Radian Digital, AlsoEnergy, SEL Software Suite, NXNavigator, SCADA UIs, Thermography software.
- Experience with Agrivoltaic practices and general agricultural and land management processes.
- Experience and background with modelling software like PVSyst and PVCase.
- FAA Part 107 Drone License, including experience with Drone Flight Planning/Data Acquisition/Processing software.
- Thermography Certification
- Electrician's license or completed electrical apprenticeship in the US.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Minimum 50% site travel.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Willingness to travel throughout the US to project sites as needed.
- Must have an active driver's license.
