Job Description
At Alpiq, we are expanding our utilityscale BESS portfolio and are looking for a motivated BESS Project Engineer to help shape the future of our storage projects. In this role, you'll take the lead on technical due diligence and design reviews, ensuring our BESS construction projects are robust, compliant, and built for longterm performance. You'll work closely with crossfunctional teams and external experts, making a real impact on strategic investment decisions and successful project delivery.
Your main responsibilities
- Lead technical due diligence for the acquisition of utility-scale BESS projects across late development, Ready-to-Build (RTB), and construction stages, supporting investment and acquisition decisions;
- Evaluate BESS system design, electrical and control systems, grid connection and interconnection requirements, and site, civil, fire safety, and permitting compliance, identifying technical gaps and risks;
- Assess and quantify technical risks and mitigation measures impacting CAPEX, schedule, performance, bankability, and long-term operability;
- Review engineering maturity and RTB readiness, including compliance with grid codes, applicable standards, and local regulations;
- Assess technical specifications, warranties, performance guarantees, and battery degradation and augmentation assumptions, ensuring bankability and long-term asset performance;
- Support project execution teams through technical reviews and recommendations at key design and construction milestones, acting as a technical reference during supplier and contractor engagements;
- Coordinate with external engineering consultants, owner's engineers, and technical advisors, and prepare technical due diligence reports, risk registers, and executive summaries for internal stakeholders and investment committees;
- Contribute to the development and application of internal technical standards, guidelines, and best practices across the BESS portfolio, ensuring consistent documentation and knowledge sharing;
- Maintain market and technology awareness of BESS developments and build relationships with OEMs, suppliers, and external technical experts;
- Collaborate closely with project management, supply chain, commercial, and operations teams to align technical solutions with execution strategies and broader business objectives.
Your profile
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or similar;
- 5+ years of experience in utilityscale renewable engineering, incl. 2+ years in BESS;
- Handson experience with technical due diligence;
- Strong English skills; German or French is a plus.
