What They Do
VONK is a private Dutch engineering company focused on energy conversion, electrical and instrumentation solutions, and control and automation solutions for the challenges of the energy transition. The company originated in 1937 when Arjen Vonk established a radio supply and repair workshop in Coevorden, Netherlands (source: iivonk.com). After World War II, VONK expanded its activities to electrical solutions for Shell's oil and gas fields (NAM), pioneering prefabricated electrical and instrumentation solutions in containers that became an industry standard (source: iivonk.com). VONK's core technology includes energy conversion systems, such as megawatt-scale AC-to-DC rectification for electrolyzers under the independent NEYA brand, and containerized substations that integrate hybrid energy systems with renewable energy sources like solar power (source: iivonk.com). VONK's products target markets such as green hydrogen, uranium enrichment, defense, and emerging e-mobility grid management through related Vonktech offerings (source: iivonk.com).
Projects & Track Record
VONK has completed several notable projects, including a 2 MW PEM fuel cell grid connection in China in 2016 and a 1 MW PEM fuel cell grid connection in Belgium in 2011, utilizing special 6kV transformers and capacitive common mode suppression (source: hannovermesse.de). In the Netherlands, VONK installed a 72 kW grid converter in 2007 and applied inductive common mode suppression for PEM fuel cell measurements and controls (source: iivonk.com). The company has also industrialized uranium enrichment centrifuge drives for global series production, highlighting their expertise in this sector (source: hannovermesse.de). Currently, VONK is focusing on NEYA feeds for large-scale electrolyzers and hybrid energy systems, with four reliable pilots combining solar and wind input with hydrogen storage via fuel cells (source: neya.byvonk.com).
Recent Developments
In the past two years, there have been no major public announcements regarding won contracts, acquisitions, mergers, or funding rounds, although NEYA continues to promote with webinars on the balance of renewable grids (source: youtube.com). Key milestones include the collaboration with DutchVentus in 2022 for hybrid energy systems and the readiness of a 50 kWp solar-integrated HPS in 2020, reinforcing the focus on energy transition (source: windpowernl.com). So far, no awards or certifications have been documented in recent reports (source: hannovermesse.de).
Working at VONK
VONK is hiring staff in various technical departments, including power electronics, control and automation, E&I, project management, and R&D specialists for hydrogen, uranium, defense, research, and industrial solutions. The open positions are likely focused on the development of NEYA and international projects (source: iivonk.com). The vacancies are concentrated at the headquarters in Zwolle and possibly in the offices in France and the UAE, as indicated by the company's presence on LinkedIn in Zwolle (source: linkedin.com). The company culture emphasizes innovation, stemming from over 85 years of technical expertise, reliability in challenging and remote conditions, and customer-focused value creation, with a shift from oil and gas to energy transition after 2015 (source: iivonk.com). However, no specific benefits such as salaries, health plans, or perks have been documented in public sources.
