This position will be responsible for SCADA and Control planning, engineering design, deployment, and commissioning on renewable energy power plants. Engineering experience with power and control systems, data acquisition and telecommunications required. Field experience in testing/commissioning and/or telecommunications is a plus.

Specific duties

  • Provide SCADA expertise on wind, battery, solar and PV + Storage power systems during the design, development, implementation, and commissioning phases of each project.
  • Design and deploy wind energy, solar, and battery storage SCADA systems.
  • Work with project manager to deliver procurement and deployment plans, timelines, and costs.
  • Work with and manage clients to ensure requirements and expectations are clear.
  • Manage IT consultants and subcontractors for network security deliverables, testing, budgets, and system completion.
  • Coordinate project site TELCO installation, scheduling and manage schedules and owners expectation.
  • Deploy SCADA solutions according to timelines and budget. Troubleshoot problems until site requirements are met.
  • Program substation RTAC units, and communication hardware using standard SCADA protocols.
  • Work closely with the clients team, as well as RRC project manager, and project engineer to warranty a quality system is installed and tested to design specifications.
  • Ensure that SCADA systems have been installed per project requirements and tested to meet QSE, CAISO, Utility, and regional reliability council requirements.
  • Responsible to ensure SAFETY requirements are met.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with SCADA software programming, SCADA historians, MS SQL servers.
  • Experience with Inductive Automation Ignition 7.x or 8.x software a must.
  • Experience with communication protocols for base-level devices: Modbus, Modbus TCP, OPC, DNP3, SELFast, IEC 61850, ICCP etc.
  • Experience with automation control systems: RTAC programming, Rockwell PLC and Control Logix programming (a plus)
  • Experience with automation device integration
  • Experience with BESS EMS system (a plus)
  • Experience with complete SCADA system project life cycles
  • Experience with Power Utility scale SCADA system development and design
  • Experience with FAT and SAT testing and documentation
  • Working knowledge of Utility Meters, Substation RTAC, Protection Relays
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP requirements
  • Knowledge of Managed switches, Hirschmans, MOXA, Ciscoetc.
  • Knowledge of Power Plant Networking, Security and Firewalls

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Science Engineering
  • Minimum 3 or more years of proven utility or industrial SCADA experience.
  • Ability to communicate complex SCADA and controls concepts to non-domain experts in a collaborative fashion.
  • Working knowledge of the renewable energy industry and projects a plus.
  • Familiarity with and able to stay current on SCADA regulations and standards.
