Job Description
Solestial, Inc. is a solar energy company for space. Solestial’s core technology is a breakthrough ultra-thin silicon solar cell that can self-cure radiation damage at normal operating temperatures in space, packaged in a flexible, lightweight panel designed to achieve minimum degradation for up to 10 years in LEO. Solestial panels can be mass-produced using automated machines, resulting in costs 90% lower than incumbent technologies, with virtually unlimited manufacturing capacity. From today’s satellite constellations and research projects to tomorrow’s utility-scale energy infrastructure and services in space, Solestial is powering the new space economy.
The Role
The Space Solar Array Production Lead Engineer will be responsible for all integration activities supporting Integrated Module Production. This includes bonding to rigid substrates, module-to-module coupling, welding, and other production processes. The engineer will lead, develop, and execute these processes to support the space customer mission and will work with the manufacturing team to ensure that current production components follow the correct manufacturing processes and adequate standards.
Specific Responsibilities
- Develop best practices and manufacturing methods for module-to-module mechanical and electrical connections, including parallel gap resistance welding.
- Develop standard processes for panel procurement and internal processing based on customer requirements.
- Develop standard procedures for module-to-panel bonding.
- Develop and build shipping containers for the completed assemblies.
- Propose continuous improvement methods such as automation to drive down the cost and schedule of integration.
- Lead the production of integrated products, ensuring the production schedule meets set deadlines.
- Lead the integration facility at Solestial, specifying area requirements and maintenance plans.
Your Background
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Processing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Experience with 3D design modeling tools such as Solid Works or AutoCAD.
- Experience working with solar power products.
- Experience managing technical projects.
