For more than 15 years, Solar States, LLC has been a regional leader in the solar power field – both in terms of system installs, and workforce development in the emerging Green Collar economy. Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, we have installed over 1,200 residential systems including rooftop solar, canopies, ground mounts, carports, EV chargers, storage. We have also installed 6+ MW of commercial solar, typically behind the meter and typically in the 50 kw to 1.5 MW project size. Keeping true to our founding mission, we have trained over 400 new entries to the Green Collar economy. For 15 years, Solar States has been a dominant solar services provider in the Philadelphia region, and especially within the Philadelphia City limits.
We are now expanding our commercial services team and are seeking to fill a key position – Commercial Project Developer. In general, the ambitious individual in this position is expected to:
- Identify and prospect potential commercial clients through inbound commercial leads, networking, referrals, and other lead generation techniques.
- Manage the sales cycle from lead generation to close
- Act as a knowledgeable and credible consultative sales professional to ensure a high integrity process that fully informs the client
- Conduct thorough analysis of client’s projected electrical usage and financial ROI and successfully execute a sales proposal and contract
- Select solar energy products, systems, or services for clients based on energy requirements, site conditions and price
- Prepare proposals, quotes, contracts or presentations for potential clients
- Negotiate contract terms, pricing, and financing options to secure sales agreements.
- Serve as an enthusiastic representative of our core values and enthusiasm for clean, renewable energy.
- Coordinate with internal teams including engineering, project management, and installation to ensure seamless delivery of solar projects.
- Perform daily activities in a highly organized and interconnected team environment, using all company communication platforms (strong organizational ability required)
- Stay informed about industry trends, market developments, and competitor activities. Use market insights to identify new sales opportunities and refine sales strategies.
- Close $3 to $5 Million in sales per year.

This role will report to the Director of Sales. This role collaborates with :

- Engineering Team
Prerequisites For This Role
- Minimum of two years project development experience in commercial solar or a related B2B energy role, or in a commercial construction field
- Strong communication skills
- Creative problem solving skills for custom projects
- Organized, detailed-oriented
- A working understanding of solar power, electrical distribution, solar tariffs, and economic incentives

- NABCEP PV Associates
- NABCEP PV Technical Sales
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Engineering
Compensation
Our Commercial Project Developer (CPD) compensation plan is designed to yield an annual income of $90,000 to $150,000 per year for a typical successful BDM; while an exceptional CPD could readily earn in excess of $200,000 annually. Compensation is in the form of commissions against a non-recoverable draw of $52,000 to $80,000 per year, depending upon documentable experience. Separate substantial bonuses are available to applicants who bring pre-existing prospective deals to the Company when hired
