Job Description

About the role

In this role you will be reporting to the Managing Director of Solar Development and as such will be responsible for advancing DG solar and storage projects across New York. The role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including project support, strategic research, documentation management, and contract development and includes being actively involved in project management, vendor relations, billing and invoicing, and evaluating new opportunities. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are crucial for success in this position.

What you'll do

  • Support the development of Solar PV opportunities in your assigned territory
  • Assist the Managing Director in representing BlueWave within the development team including interactions with investors, engineers, contractors, consultants, landowners, permitting authorities and customers
  • Utilize our project management, document control and MIS tools (such as Salesforce and Smartsheet) to control and report on project progress
  • Support the Managing Director in driving project timelines and costs
  • Become familiar with all NY State incentives, state agency requirements, local permitting requirements, project documentation, regulatory requirement milestones, and monitor project progress against those requirements
  • Follow all document control procedures, with a particular focus on critical control documents and the filing of the same
  • Support BlueWave storage team activities as needed
  • Support BlueWave’s oversight role in projects under construction and support role during financing
  • Research market trends and strategy
  • Collaborate/coordinate with other teams at BlueWave
  • Provide quantitative analytical support for key project development decisions
  • Prepare internal and external documents and presentations

Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years of energy project development experience; familiarity with NYS development strongly preferred
  • Strong working understanding of real estate law and the project entitlement process
  • Experience negotiating key agreements, preferably with landowners, vendors and municipalities
  • Basic technical understanding of solar PV and electrical grid infrastructure
  • Self-starter that can catch up to speed quickly
  • Proficiency with standard project management tools and financial modeling in Excel
  • Familiarity with general project finance underwriting principles and DCF analysis
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Able to think creatively to help streamline operations
  • A great attitude and ability to be flexible
  • Valid US driver’s license
  • Based in New York State with the ability to travel throughout NYS to perform site visits as needed

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in a related field
  • Background in or familiarity with civil engineering a plus
  • Familiarity with New York land permitting processes
  • Prior experience developing solar plus storage and/or storage-only projects a plus
  • Supervisory or management experience
  • Familiarity or prior experience working with electric utilities
  • Prior experience developing community solar projects and/or obtaining NYSERDA incentives would be a plus

Compensation will be influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, job-related knowledge, skills, education, certifications, and relevant experience as outlined in the job description above.
