Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Kairos Power is offering exciting opportunities for students to join our Civil Structures team as an intern in Summer 2025! The internship provides a unique, hands-on experience, allowing you to contribute to groundbreaking projects in the nuclear energy sector through high-performance computing and experimental investigative methods.

General Responsibilities

  • Assist with field and design considerations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Participate in site visits for data collection, including measurements and photographic documentation, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Learn and use building codes and design codes, performing hand calculations and using commercially available analysis software such as ANSYS, SAP2000.
  • Create engineering design calculation packages considering static, dynamic, blast, vibration, and thermal stresses. Evaluate the durability of structural components.
  • Develop 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software
  • Prepare reports and presentations on design and analysis work. Help review and improve structural material selection and structural component specifications
  • Participate in reviews to ensure designs are safe and operational
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Current student pursuing Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Field-related job site experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated application of technical skills outside of classroom setting through laboratory, research, extracurricular projects, personal projects, or prior internship/work experience is highly preferred
  • Experience in CAD software, Revit preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Self-starter, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proven team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with a highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Prioritizes and ensures the safety of oneself and others
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage, and transfer knowledge
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges, and issues.
