Job Description
The Outside Sales Consultant: Solar position is responsible for the solicitation, response, and closure of revenue opportunities related to installation of Solar systems and other opportunities generally falling within the Scope as defined below. The Outside Sales Consultant will solicit and close new and existing customers who need solar arrays installed. When necessary, the Outside Sales Consultant will also assist in our storm response plan to maximize revenue opportunities related to roofing and removal and reinstall of solar systems. The Outside Sales Consultant must be professional, self-motivated, dedicated to customer service, and willing to work with many different people within and outside the company.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Deliver engaging and professional presentations to potential customers.
- Collaborate with both new and existing customers to provide quotes and sell solar services.
- Quote and sell smart energy solutions—primarily solar arrays and energy storage systems—to new and existing customers. Focus primarily on residential markets.
- Assist existing customers (and potential new non-AES customers) with post-installation service requests or additional product needs.
- Negotiate with customers, insurance companies, and contractors to facilitate projects while meeting profit goals.
- Maintain clear communication with customers throughout the sales process, offering support and information as needed.
- Execute the storm response plan to generate and follow-up on opportunities for roofing, Removal and Re-install of solar systems, and other service work when needed.
- Partner with internal teams to ensure a seamless, 5-star customer experience before, during, and after installation.
- Serve as a resource for training and information sharing with other sales representatives.
- Conduct timely close-out meetings with customers after project completion to ensure satisfaction, finalize payments, and request favorable reviews.
Other Duties & Scope
- Other duties and tasks as assigned by management.
- Small (<5 panels) system add-ons.
- EV Chargers (with, or without existing solar).
- Proactive Service opportunities, including potential Extended Warranties and Electrical Component moves).
- Critter Guard, Snow Guard, Array Skirting.
Excluded from scope: Accessory adds; Out of Warranty components; small service opportunities generated as result of a Service Technician visit (on a Service Case). Certain specific extended warranties or preventative maintenance programs identified and developed by the Service team (existing customers).
Skills/Qualifications
- 3+ years of proven experience in sales (outside or inside) preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience considered.
- Previous proven experience selling solar or other exterior products and insurance claim work (preferred).
- Proficiency with sales estimating software tools such as GAF Quick Roof and Xactimate (preferred).
- Experience using Salesforce.com or similar CRM platforms (preferred).
- Proficient in Google Suite/Google Workspace (Slides, Sheets, Calendar, Forms, Docs, Gmail) or related software.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends (extended hours) to engage prospective customers.
- Ability and willingness to conduct in-home assessments of roof damage, as well as use online resources for evaluations.
- Capability to train and mentor fellow sales representatives as needed.
- Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality of company, sales, and financial data/information.
- Proactive and helpful demeanor.
- Comfort with changing priorities and a dynamic work environment.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer (frequent).
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times (infrequent).
- Ability to type at least 40 words per minute (frequent).
- Must be able to transport and drive for short and long distances for work related purposes and events.
- Travel to in-home appointments (in-person and virtual presentations), canvassing, trade-shows/conferences, company locations and facilities, and other sales territories as necessary.
Compensation & Benefits
- This is a full-time commission-based position.
- Base training pay available during initial 90 days of employment.
- Includes an additional expected base annual salary of $18,000.
- On Target Earnings potential $100,000 based on performance.
- This position requires work in-home, in-person and virtual customer home appointments/presentations, at events, and company locations and may require additional hours outside of normal working hours including but not limited to mornings, evenings, and weekends.
