Careers at Helion Energy

We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone.

Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised over $1 billion from long-time investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group and new investors SoftBank and Lightspeed to propel us forward. Our last prototype, Trenta, completed 10,000 high-power pulses and reached plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV). Now, we're turning up operations for Polaris, working towards delivering the world's first fusion power plant.

More than ever, it's a pivotal time to join us and have the opportunity to solve real challenges to create a better energy future. You will see first-hand how we value urgency, rigor, ownership, and hard truths, knowing it will take each to do what no one has before. Joining us, you will push the boundaries of what's possible and transform humanity for the better - because the world can't wait.

What You Will Be Doing

We are hiring an Electrical Engineer to support the core energy management system for our fusion generators. You will support various electrical energy management systems including energy delivery for the magnetics, fusion energy recovery, and re-distribution networks. You will report directly to our Senior Manager of Electrical Engineering at our Everett, WA office.

You Will

  • Design, test, troubleshoot, and support operation of high voltage electrical power systems for driving pulsed magnetic coils
  • Oversee design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of high-power electrical systems to drive pulsed coils (<1ms) at currents up to 5MA and voltages up to 40 kV
  • Develop electrical system architecture and work with designers to produce electrical schematics and installation drawings
  • Develop cost-effective, scalable, and reliable design solutions via technical peer review through a design review process for each major design project
  • Collaborate with operators of generator power systems through machine commissioning and, for development machines, through the lifetime of the machine
  • Demonstrate rigorous engineering practices including management of cost, schedule, and resource estimates as they pertain to your design, build, and delivery timelines

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in power systems engineering or in high-power, high voltage pulsed power systems up to 40kV, especially in the system requirement and design phases
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s level degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field
  • Experience in design, fabrication, installation and test of high voltage electronics
  • Strong background with solid state switching technologies and understanding of operating characteristics of power electronic components such as IGBTs, power MOSFETs, and SCRs
  • Technical expertise in the application of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory, and practice with the ability to coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership
  • Advanced in electronic troubleshooting systems using standard benchtop tools such as oscilloscopes, Eloads, pulse generators, spectrum analyzers, and PCB design software
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, LTSpice, SIMtrex/Simplis, Altium, Matlab

Helion's compensation package includes a competitively benchmarked base salary, meaningful equity grants, and comprehensive benefits.
