Job Description

Canadian Solar Inc. is one of the world’s largest solar module producers. As a leading vertically integrated provider of ingots, wafers, solar cells, solar modules, solar power systems, and specialized solar products, Canadian Solar delivers uncompromising value to its customers across the globe.

The Production Shift Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of production staff on their assigned shift. This includes responsibilities in safety, quality, scheduling, training, production reporting, team communication, and continuous improvement. The Supervisor ensures that operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards while fostering a culture of accountability and teamwork. Support Production Manager on initiatives and projects with production team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the shift production schedule in support of first-time quality and on-time delivery.
  • Lead and execute the shift communication plan to ensure proper handovers and cross-department alignment.
  • Escalate safety, quality, production, maintenance and delivery issues per the established escalation process.
  • Monitor product and process performance; respond promptly to quality and efficiency concerns.
  • Assist with troubleshooting process or equipment-related issues.
  • Ensure all employees are trained and qualified before operating the equipment.
  • Provide leadership by setting team goals and creating a positive, supportive culture.
  • Coordinate with other departments (e.g., Maintenance, Quality, Engineering) to meet production goals.
  • Communicate shift results and issues clearly to team members and management.
  • Submit reports on performance and progress.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs to meet company objectives.
  • Enforce safety regulations and uphold company standards at all times.
  • Organize workflows and ensure all team members understand their duties and expectations.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide mid-term counseling and developmental feedback as needed.
  • Contribute to a leadership culture that prioritizes growth, teamwork, and long-term talent development.
  • Complete required incident reports and investigations in a timely manner.
  • Participate in monthly workplace safety inspections and trainings.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment and associates degree or above.
  • Demonstrated application of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or Six Sigma tools.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Able to work a continental shift schedule (e.g., 12-hour rotating shifts).
  • Proven ability to lead with sensitivity, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand a wide range of production roles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including: Excel (basic spreadsheets and formulas), PowerPoint (basic presentation building), Outlook (email/calendar/task tracking).
  • Problem-solving experience using Fishbone Diagrams, 5 Whys, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, and solution-oriented.
  • High school diploma required; a degree in engineering, technical, or related field is preferred.
  • Mandarin language skills are an asset but not required.

Working Conditions

  • Standard office environment with frequent visits to facility areas and production environments.
  • May require occasional travel to other facilities or vendor locations.
  • May involve working outside of regular hours to address facility issues or oversee projects.
