Job Description

Skeleton is looking for a driven and experienced Defense System Engineer (m/f/x) who will play a key role in developing advanced energy storage solutions for defense applications.

Your responsibility areas

  • Engage with defense customers, end users, and prospects to understand application and mission profiles, power requirements, and platform constraints for land, sea, air, and space systems.
  • Design and model energy storage and power electronics systems tailored for defense applications (e.g., armoured vehicles, loitering munitions, directed energy weapons, autonomous systems).
  • Develop system architectures, value propositions, and technical documentation that clearly communicate the benefits of our modules and systems.
  • Contribute to business development by being able to present technical solutions to customers, identifying new applications and emerging needs, helping shape product roadmaps for a new dedicated product family, and maintaining awareness of defense innovation programs and customer roadmaps.
  • Support the sales and tender teams during procurement processes, providing technical input for offers, system integration, compliance matrices, and contract negotiations.
  • Operate independently in your role, managing your own workload with minimal supervision.
  • You will be reporting to our VP of Government Affairs & Strategic Partnerships, based in Tallinn, but will collaborate fluidly with our CPO based in Lappeenranta and his advanced engineering team. You will also work closely with our Defense Lead Scientist and Senior Sales Manager for Defense, based in Toulouse.

Requirements

  • A degree in a technical field such as systems engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, energy systems, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in application engineering, technical sales, defense systems, power electronics, or energy storage integration.
  • Strong understanding of energy storage technologies (supercapacitors, batteries, hybrid systems), power electronics, or related systems.
  • Understanding of system-level trade-offs (power density, energy density, thermal constraints). Knowledge of embedded systems, DC/DC converters, or thermal management is a plus.
  • Prior experience in military programs, system integration, or engineering roles within a defense OEM, system integrator, or defense tech scale-up is highly valued.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate customer requirements into concrete technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, especially in customer-facing roles.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, international, and innovation-driven environment, as well as in a small team.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.

Benefits

  • We offer flexible working hours, with the possibility of mobile working without core working hours and sufficient freedom for your own ideas.
  • A flat hierarchy culture - fostering our great working atmosphere.
  • A motivating opportunity for continuous growth at Skeleton.
  • An additional day off every year for your birthday.

We're not just about energy storage. We're about redefining energy for a net-zero future, and we'd love for you to be a part of our journey.
