ABOUT THE ROLE
An exciting opportunity awaits for an External Affairs Coordinator within TransAlta's External Affairs, Regulatory Policy, and Market Policy team. This role is perfect for an early career professional eager to build experience in stakeholder engagement and policy while contributing to a high impact team.
We're seeking a proactive, detail-oriented individual who brings enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. In this hybrid role, you'll split your time between coordinating key activities and providing essential administrative support to the team, giving you exposure to policy development, external relations, and corporate processes.

This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Coordinate calendars, travel, and meeting logistics for External Affairs leader while anticipating needs and ensuring agendas, briefing materials, and follow ups are ready on time
- Draft, edit, and format high quality emails, memos, stakeholder letters, and executive ready documents
- Assist the team with presentation and materials development and record keeping for stakeholder engagement
- Manage invoices, expense reports, and basic budget tracking
- Coordinate approvals and document workflows in SharePoint/Teams while keeping folders, templates, and version history tidy and easy to navigate
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions; be a reliable first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders
- Special projects as required
ABOUT YOU
- Undergraduate degree in Political Science, Economics, International Relations, Business, Public Policy, or a related field that developed strong writing and critical thinking skills
- 1-2 years of experience in an administrative, coordination, public affairs, government relations, or communications role (internships/co-ops count)
- Exceptional written communication: you can translate complex topics into clear, concise, audience appropriate messages and briefing notes
- Proven organization and time management: you juggle multiple deadlines, prioritize effectively, and follow through without reminders
- Stakeholder savvy: you build respectful relationships and handle sensitive interactions with discretion, diplomacy, and sound judgment
- Tech proficiency: confident with Outlook/Calendar, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams; comfortable learning new tools and simple CRMs
- Process mindset: you streamline workflows, maintain clean records, and spot opportunities to improve templates and standard operating procedures
- A collaborative, service-oriented approach aligned with inclusive values; you bring positivity, accountability, and reliability to a fastmoving team
- Experience with SAP systems would be an asset
