Job Description

As a Senior member of the highly skilled 24/7 World Class Control Centre, you will monitor, control and co-ordinate activities across the entire ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) UK onshore wind, solar and battery portfolio as well as supporting our European offshore wind portfolio with a generation capacity of over 4.5GW and growing.

Managing assets considered as critical national infrastructure by Ofgem to ensure business regulatory compliance to the UK grid code and wider regulatory requirements, you will have direct influence on business revenue through efficient response to emerging events which includes wind turbine and High Voltage (HV) faults, both directly and indirectly, maximising availability of plant and minimising lost production through the efficient management of complex technical issues, including responsibilities on behalf of the Offshore Transmission Owner (OFTO).

You will also be responsible for remote asset management of new technology such as battery storage and solar PV, working to balance peak loads and maximise revenue streams through ancillary services.

What you'll be doing

Responsible for complex technical tasks on shift, using your experience and technical ability to handle events that require in-depth knowledge of turbine technology, you will safely fault find and resolve faults remotely. Complex HV switching tasks will also come under your responsibility, working closely with a HV networks team of Senior Authorised Persons (SAP's).

With direct 2nd level accountability to monitor 24/7 365 days per year the System Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) that is connected to all SPR onshore and offshore wind turbines and High Voltage infrastructure, you will handle complex technical faults remotely in an efficient manner ensuring SPR generation revenue is maximised and unavailability of plant minimised.

Responsible for 2nd level remote technical fault-finding analysis of wind turbine faults, you will use your in-depth technical experience and knowledge to make decisions, bringing plant back online or not, dealing with emerging faults across all projects to minimise the impact on business revenue through lost production and unavailability.

Managing and ensuring compliance with all National Grid instructions such as active power curtailments, reactive power adjustments and frequency response changes as defined in the mandatory service agreements, you will ensure Grid Code compliance to avoid regulatory breaches which can amount to removal of SPR's generation licence, impacting SPR's reputation and revenue.

You will have direct communication and second level engineering coordination with HV network owners Distribution Network Operators (DNO) and Transmission System Operators (TSO) including the System Operator (SO) National Grid to manage planned and unplanned outages affecting our assets while ensuring safety and legislative compliance.

What you'll bring

We will look for you to have Control room experience, working within a complex, dynamic environment which requires key decision making and accountability. With technical knowledge of wind turbines, you will be able to fault find remotely and make decisions to create solutions including the ability to interrogate SCADA systems which control turbines.

You will posses sound knowledge and practical experience of working under wind turbine safety rules, equivalent company safety rules or an equivalent 'rule based' system.

What's in it for you

As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we'll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.
