Job Description
At SP Energy Networks, our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. Our teams are delivering a smarter, more resilient and dynamic network to meet the increasing demand for electricity-powered by more renewable energy than ever before-and doing so safely, securely and sustainably for the communities we serve.
Due to continued growth and the significant level of investment across our Transmission business, we have opportunities for Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors to join us at a truly exciting time. Within SPEN's HVDC business, we are constructing and developing a number of high voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea electricity links, delivered and operated by SP Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET).
Working as a key part of our project teams, you'll oversee a range of commercial activities from preparing and evaluating tenders for significant packages of work; to administering extremely high value contracts throughout construction. You will be expected to work with a range of contracts, including bespoke EPC FIDIC contracts, as well as NEC4 contracts. Working as part of a collaborative team, you'll play a key part in enabling the energy transition while helping shape the future of critical national infrastructure.
What You'll Do
- Prepare tender documents and negotiate tender prices, payment schedules and terms and conditions.
- Produce monthly valuations, commercial reports, and financial updates.
- Be confident in the application of various contractual levers including management of advance warnings, variations and change control processes.
- Attend or lead (senior level) commercial meetings with partners and stakeholders.
- Agree final accounts and maintain accurate commercial records.
- Ensure compliance with internal processes and industry standards.
- Manager and mentor junior staff (senior level only).
What You'll Bring
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor (consultancy or contracting).
- Strong commercial acumen and knowledge of procurement and cost management.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience.
- MRICS status (Desirable)
- Transmission or utilities sector experience (Desirable)
- Familiarity with a range of Contract forms including FIDIC and NEC3/NEC4.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- MS Office proficiency.
- Full UK Driving Licence - mandatory (occasional travel to sites)
