Job Description

Position Summary
The Test Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers responsible for the development, execution, and continuous improvement of battery testing protocols. This role is critical to ensuring the performance, durability, and safety of our battery systems through rigorous testing and data-driven insights. The desired candidate will possess a strong understanding in test development and life cycle management in a validated environment, with experience implementing best practice and advanced technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Project Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of test engineers and technicians.
- Prioritize and allocate resources across multiple testing projects to meet development and production timelines.
- Responsible for building out the test team, hiring, and competency management.
- Establish a documented process for test development, from scoping to delivery, including life cycle management of test systems.
- Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with operations, Quality, NPD and manufacturing engineering to build a comprehensive approach to production testing.
Test Development and Execution
- The role will require the candidate to be a “working manager” and understand all aspects of testing end-to-end at a detailed level.
- Production test architecture, approach and design development for end-of-line systems as well as sub-assembly testing. In-process inspection and screening.
- Design and implement comprehensive test protocols for battery systems, including performance, durability, and safety evaluations.
- Oversee the setup, execution, and troubleshooting of tests using advanced testing equipment and methodologies.
- Ensure test procedures comply with industry standards and internal quality requirements.
- Work directly with the scientific and new product development teams to ensure functional requirements are defined.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Guide the team in collecting, processing, and analyzing test data to identify trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities.
- Translate test results into actionable insights that support product development, quality assurance, and scrap reduction initiatives.
- Prepare and present detailed technical reports and presentations to cross-functional teams and leadership.
Training and Knowledge Sharing
- Develop and maintain work instructions, SOPs, and training materials for test procedures and equipment use.
- Train team members and cross-functional staff on testing protocols, safety standards, and equipment maintenance.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on battery testing, providing technical support across departments.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in test architecture, development and validation, or related engineering roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity (cross functional team leadership, project team leadership or direct leadership.)
- Strong understanding of battery technologies, test equipment, and safety standards.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Excel) and test management software.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Working Conditions
- Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
