Job Description

SP Energy Networks (SPEN) will be delivering £5.4b of investment in the GB electricity grid over the next 5 years. As part of this, SPT Strategic Projects will be delivering a £3b portfolio of new overhead lines and new and upgraded substations, including design, engineering, construction and electrical works.

At SP Energy Networks, we know people are central to building a better future, quicker and we are seeking new talent to join our team.

What you’ll be doing

The Baseline and Change Manager is a critical role within SPT Strategic Projects, leading the development and implementation of robust baseline and change management frameworks across the Strategic Portfolio. As an integral member of the multi-disciplinary PMO team, the Baseline and Change Manager drives the end-to-end process to update and maintain project baselines, internal and contractual changes and communicating outcomes to impacted stakeholders.

  • Maintains and implements the Baseline & Change Management processes, standards, and templates, ensuring alignment and consistency across the portfolio.
  • Maintains the projects’ baseline up to date and drives re-baseline activities post-stage gate assessments and after approval of critical internal and contractual changes (including Compensation Events under NEC4 contracts).
  • Holds records for baseline updates and approvals within the live Project Baseline Book to represent accurate project state for benchmark reporting.
  • Facilitates end to end change control and ensures proposed changes (e.g. internal or contractual) are escalated to the appropriate approver(s) in line with the Strategic Portfolio Delegated Level of Authority.
  • Co-ordinates all required change supporting documentation and impact assessments with project teams.
  • Facilitates regular Change Review Boards and communicates decisions to impacted stakeholders.
  • Interrogates proposed changes ensuring that they are justified and clearly outline impacts on schedule, cost and scope.
  • Assures the projects’ change registers are up to date and facilitates the flow of information for monthly and ad-hoc reporting in collaboration with the Commercial / QS team.
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of the Strategic Portfolio by championing Lessons Learned.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience managing project scope, cost and schedule baselines, working closely with Project Managers, Scheduling Engineers, Cost Engineers, Commercial Managers, Quantity Surveyors and project delivery teams.
  • Experience in supporting the implementation of change in complex and dynamic business environments, including contractual changes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality reports, dashboards, and presentations tailored for senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and track multiple changes across the Strategic Portfolio simultaneously, ensuring project delivery teams operate within change control frameworks and strict timeframes.
  • Confident and skilled in constructive challenge, with the ability to influence decision-making at all levels of the organisation.
  • Comfortable engaging capital delivery functions to co-ordinate baseline and change activities, including engineering, commercial, project managers and project controls teams.
  • Delivery-focused and resilient, capable of managing competing priorities and adapting to continually changing demands within tight deadlines.
  • Experience in influencing and engaging with stakeholders at various organisational levels and external parties.

As a minimum, you will demonstrate

  • Proven experience in baseline and change management frameworks to manage complex scope, schedule and cost changes in capital project delivery, ideally within large-scale infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC4 contracts, including Compensation Event end to end management process.
  • Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g., Engineering or Project Management) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with a good knowledge of industry standard digital systems (e.g. P6 Primavera, SAP, Autodesk Construction Cloud, CEMAR, etc).
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage and motivate stakeholders across all organisational levels.
