The Construction Manager / Site Superintendent is responsible for on-site supervision, coordination, and execution of construction activities, ensuring all work is performed safely, in compliance with Canadian laws and standards, on schedule, and aligned with guaranteed energy performance design and performance outcomes.

Responsibilities
The Construction Manager / Site Superintendent shall:
Site Supervision & Field Leadership
- Serve as the primary on‑site supervisory authority during all active construction phases.
- Provide full‑time site presence as required by the project schedule.
- Direct, coordinate, and supervise subcontractors, trades, and site personnel.
- Conduct daily site inspections to verify progress, workmanship, safety, and housekeeping.
- Coordinate work sequencing and site logistics to avoid conflicts and delays.
- Plan and manage outages, shutdowns, and system tie‑ins in coordination with facility operations.
- Maintain accurate daily site logs, manpower reports, and construction activity records.
Procurement Support
- Provide constructability, sequencing, and site condition input to support design and procurement planning.
- Support quality assurance (QA) review of contract tender documents, including:
- Construction scopes of work
- Technical specifications and drawings
- Site access requirements and constraints
- Safety, environmental, and Indigenous engagement requirements
- Identify gaps, ambiguities, or site‑specific risks in tender documents and recommend clarifications prior to issuance.
- Coordinate and attend contractor site walkthroughs, including:
- Preparing site access and safety arrangements
- Identifying existing conditions, constraints, and interfaces
- Responding to contractor questions related to construction logistics
- Support preparation of site walkthrough agendas, sign‑in sheets, meeting notes, and responses to bidder inquiries.
- Assist project leadership with evaluation of contractor submissions from a construction feasibility and schedule perspective, as requested.
- Inspect and accept Ameresco procured materials on site, store securely and perform inventory management, quantity survey and accurate record keeping.
- Verify subcontractor qualifications, insurance, certifications, and regulatory compliance.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance
- Implement and enforce the Site Project Health & Safety Plan in accordance with:
- Provincial Occupational Health & Safety legislation
- Canadian Labour Code (where applicable)
- Safety standards and owner‑specific safety requirements
- Lead site safety orientations, toolbox talks, and daily hazard assessments.
- Verify contractor safety certification requirements.
- Identify unsafe conditions and stop work when necessary.
- Investigate incidents and ensure proper investigation, reporting and corrective actions.
- Support environmental protection measures, including spill prevention, waste management, and site controls.
- Support in the development and/or review of site-specific safety plans.
ESPC Construction Execution
- Oversee construction of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs), including HVAC, electrical, controls, lighting, renewable energy, and related systems.
- Ensure installations comply with approved drawings, specifications.
- Coordinate construction phasing in occupied or mission‑critical facilities to minimize disruption.
- Support achievement of substantial performance, construction completion, and final acceptance milestones.
Subcontractor & Trade Management
- Conduct subcontractor kickoff meetings with detailed site requirements.
- Review and approve daily work plans and manpower allocations.
- Monitor subcontractor productivity, workmanship, safety, and schedule performance.
- Resolve trade conflicts and coordinate interdependent activities.
- Enforce site quality standards and contract requirements.
- Manage and maintain contractor RFI and CCN logs.
- Verify completed work quantities for payment certification.
Schedule, Cost & Risk Management
- Track construction progress against the approved baseline schedule.
- Identify site constraints, risks, and schedule impacts early.
- Implement or support schedule recovery and mitigation measures.
- Assist with quantity tracking, progress forecasting, and cost control.
- Support field‑level change management and scope clarification.
Quality Control, Commissioning & Turnover
- Enforce quality assurance and inspection requirements.
- Coordinate construction readiness for commissioning and functional performance testing.
- Manage deficiency resolution and punch‑list completion.
- Verify completion of as‑built drawings, O&M manuals, and training materials.
- Support system turnover and training for facility operations staff.
Measurement & Verification (M&V) Support
- Ensure ECM installations support approved M&V Plans.
- Support post‑construction verification activities during the performance period, as required.
Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting
- Act as the on‑site point of contact for the ESCO team
- Lead site coordination meetings and inspections.
- Provide regular site reports, look‑ahead schedules, and risk updates to project leadership.
- Report onsite project status to business and project stakeholders to accurately create forecasts and schedules.
- Contribute to, and generate monthly project reporting packages
- Support public‑sector documentation, audit, and reporting requirements.
Indigenous Engagement
- Support implementation of Indigenous engagement plans established by the owner, Crown entity, or project leadership.
- Monitor and report Indigenous participation metrics related to construction, where required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years experience in commercial building electrical, mechanical, or engineering construction management, with a focus on:
- Complex facility infrastructure retrofit construction
- Deep energy retrofits and upgrades
- Building controls and automation
- Energy services
- Current First Aid certification required prior to starting on site.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Project.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with solid technical, computer, and presentation abilities.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsorship.
- Valid provincial driver's license, in good standing.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Federal Reliability Status security clearance (condition of employment).
Additional Qualifications
- Prior experience working on Federal Government of Canada projects.
- Completion of, or active progress toward, engineering, technical, or industry‑related education.
- Familiarity with National Master Specification (NMS) tender documents.
- Knowledge of safety standards such as COR, ISO 45001, or equivalent frameworks.
- Proven understanding of project management standards, methodologies, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while fostering strong, positive business relationships.
- Experience in project risk assessment and risk management.
- Strong conflict management and problem‑solving skills.
- Leadership capabilities with the ability to guide teams effectively.
- Strong multi‑tasking ability in a dynamic work environment.
