Agora Energiewende is een non-profit denktank die zich richt op het ontwikkelen van wetenschappelijk onderbouwde en politiek haalbare strategieën voor de energietransitie in Duitsland. De organisatie richt zich op de decarbonisatie van de energie- en gebouwensectoren en ontwikkelt strategieën voor hernieuwbare energiesystemen, flexibiliteitsopties en de afbouw van fossiele brandstoffen. Projecten & Succesverhalen
Hoewel Agora Energiewende voornamelijk als denktank opereert zonder traditionele infrastructuurprojecten, heeft de organisatie een sterke staat van dienst in het uitvoeren van invloedrijke studies en beleidswerk. Opmerkelijke projecten zijn onder andere de economische analyse van de Hinkley Point C kerncentrale in het Verenigd Koninkrijk uit 2016 en de studie "Cross-Border Renewables Cooperation" uit 2018, die zich bezighoudt met de kosten van windenergie in de PENTA-regio. Huidige inspanningen omvatten internationale modelleringen via PyPSA-SPICE en specifieke politieke ondersteuning voor de decarbonisatie in Thailand (Bron: securesustain.org).
Actuele Ontwikkelingen
In de afgelopen twee jaar heeft Agora Energiewende verschillende belangrijke ontwikkelingen aangekondigd, waaronder de lancering van de PyPSA-SPICE open-source modelbouwer op 8 december 2025, die een transparante energieplanning mogelijk moet maken. Daarnaast werd het EU Grids Package op 10 december 2025 verwelkomd om investeringen te sturen. De organisatie heeft ook evenementen georganiseerd, zoals het webinar "Van Oven naar Toekomst: Mogelijk maken van koolstofarme staalproductie in Zuidoost-Azië" op 24 juli 2025 (Bron: agora-energiewende.org).

Agora Energiewende heeft een interdisciplinair team van meer dan 120 tot 180 medewerkers in verschillende functies, waaronder technische, economische, politieke en communicatieve posities. De kantoren in Berlijn, Brussel en Bangkok zijn actieve centra die binnen de Agora denktankstructuur werven. Job Description
In line with global trends, South Korea is facing the need to profoundly transform its energy and industry systems. Having pledged climate neutrality by 2050, the country needs a transformation to fully decarbonize both sectors within just one generation, which requires bold investments, technological innovation and a detailed policy strategy. At the same time, with more than 90% of primary energy still sourced from imported fossil fuels, the shift to clean energy is also a matter of industrial competitiveness and energy security; imperatives that have only grown more urgent in the wake of recent global energy crises.
As an international think tank, Agora is pursuing the goal of achieving a secure, affordable and climate-neutral energy and industry systems worldwide by the middle of the century.
With around 200 employees at four locations worldwide, we combine research, dialogues, and public relations in our daily work to find answers to those questions crucial to the energy transition. In doing so, we work closely with partners in numerous countries. And - very importantly - we act independently and free of economic or party-political interests.
In South Korea, Agora's work supports the energy and industry transition in close cooperation with local and international partners. This programme, implemented from our Berlin office in close alignment with our partners in the country, focusses on evidence-based analysis, stakeholder dialogues and policy proposals.
To support Agora's South Korea programme we are seeking a
Project Manager Energy & Industry Transition South Korea (f/m/d)
Berlin, Brussels, or Bangkok with frequent travels to South Korea and other Asian countries, full-time or part-time (minimum 32 hours)
Your responsibilities include
- Conducting and managing specific research projects on energy and industry transition in South Korea, with a focus on renewable energy expansion, power system transformation and transformation of key industry sectors such as chemicals and steel;
- Systematically analyzing energy and industry policies and economic trends in the country and writing studies, commentaries and policy papers for those sectors;
- Engaging directly with energy and industrial stakeholders strongly on system transformation and decarbonization strategies and translating their needs into evidence-based policy recommendations; advising government authorities on key policies;
- Systematically transferring international best-practices, as well as expertise and research results from Agora's work in the field of energy and industry transition to stakeholders in Korea and contribute to projects in other East Asian countries;
- Working with Agora's closest partners in the field; supporting them through joint projects, skill sharing, training, and peer exchange;
- Communicating results and insights from Agora's work, as well as knowledge about global energy and industry transition policies, regulations and techno-economic developments to various audiences;
- Supporting the development of Agora's long-term strategy in South Korea, including developing project proposals and maintaining relationships with funders and key institutional partners.
We are looking for
- A strong desire to actively shape the global clean energy and industry transitions;
- A Master's degree in economics, engineering or similar and at least 4 years of relevant work experience with energy or industry topics. Specific experience working in East Asia is advantageous;
- A proven track record and field of expertise working in or with industry stakeholders, for example on technologies/innovation, economics or industrial processes, energy systems, or decarbonization pathways;
- Familiarity with South Korea's energy and industrial policy landscape, including key institutions, regulatory processes and the political economy of Korea's energy and industrial transition is a plus;
- Experience with working in international teams and networks;
- Dedication, reliability, perseverance, and a strong intellect; creativity and an ability to work independently as well as in a team; ability to take initiative;
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, ability to present analytical and research material;
- Working fluency in English; Korean and other language skills, including German, are a plus.
