Assistent Project Manager of Project Manager, Power Gen & Storage

Job Overview

The Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager, Power Generation & Storage has a lead role in advancing NYSERDA's strategy for supporting the development and commercialization of new power generation and storage technologies including battery energy storage, nuclear, carbon capture and sequestration, wind, and other energy resources.

Primary Responsibilities

• Help develop and execute research and development programs for power generation and storage technologies.
• Develop and negotiate scopes of work, technical/business milestones and budgets for NYSERDA-funded power generation and storage research and development projects.
• Actively manage the performance of multiple R&D projects simultaneously performing forecast analysis of schedule and budget with the responsibility to deliver them on time and on budget.
• Communicate project status and results to project stakeholders and NYSERDA leadership and use the results to help improve project creation and delivery.
• Oversee the work of consultants and contractors to include writing statements of work, issuing and negotiating contracts, budgeting, and invoicing.
• Collaborate with NYSERDA's other Innovation teams including Advanced Fuels, Power Grid, End Use, Commercialization and Transportation; as well as relevant Market Development groups to identify opportunities to drive adoption of power generation and storage and Innovation technologies in the New York market.
• Support the development of power generation and storage programs that are responsive to customers and partners, maintain operational flexibility needed to evolve, and minimize administrative cost and contracting burdens.
• Engage with other state agencies and industry groups to help educate them on NYSERDA's Innovation and research plans for power generation and energy storage and factor in their feedback into program designs.
• Maintain industry engagement and knowledge of R&D and pre-commercialization power generation and storage technologies and markets.
• Work to identify and understand the barriers to development and market adoption of new power generation and storage technologies and offer ideas and strategies to overcome them in programs and project development.
• Use market insights to assess and leverage opportunities for new research initiatives and partnerships for power generation and storage solutions in the New York market or improve those that are already in the market.
• Work with Innovation's Commercialization team to advise on NYSERDA's portfolio companies.
• Represent NYSERDA at meetings and events with external stakeholders.
• Represent NYSERDA in collaborative programs with private and public organizations and institutions.
• Contribute to a team culture of openness and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications

• For Assistant Project Manager (Salary: $70,720-$96,764)
  • Bachelor's degree, and 3 years of project and/program management experience and familiarity with energy storage and/or onshore wind, solar, geothermal power generation technologies including batteries, nuclear fission, hydropower and their markets. Applicants with experience in other bulk power generation or storage technologies are encouraged to apply.
• For Project Manager (Salary: $78,333-$131,298)
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of project and/program management experience and familiarity with energy storage and/or onshore wind, solar, geothermal power generation technologies including batteries, nuclear fission, hydropower and their markets. Applicants with experience in other bulk power generation or storage technologies are encouraged to apply.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering on commitments and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment.
• Demonstrated real-world technical project management experience with the ability to set priorities, develop, and execute on a workplan and action-bias to deploy projects in the field.
• Demonstrated ability to identify project risks early and develop strategies to mitigate them.
• Knowledge of product research, development, and commercialization strategies.
• Knowledge of energy storage and power generation technologies such as onshore wind, solar, geothermal, energy storage and other advanced energy generation technologies for batteries, nuclear and hydropower.
• Knowledge includes performance characteristics and markets; and a baseline understanding of market actors, economics, and impediments in the industry.
• Demonstrated experience in gaining and using insight from market participants (e.g., producers, installers, financiers, end-customers, regulators, etc.) to design and evolve programs.
• Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key stakeholder groups and for building effective partnerships and facilitating consensus-building to achieve cross organization goals.
• Demonstrated appetite to learn and assimilate new information and think holistically through complex problems with technical and non-technical components.
• Established presentation skills with the ability to communicate persuasively, concisely, and unambiguously in both speech and writing to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to produce effective and purposeful written material.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills, particularly related to project schedules and budgets.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Travel Requirements: 10-20% travel across New York State with occasional national travel for industry conferences and events.

Preferred Qualifications

• For Assistant Project Manager:
  • Master's degree, particularly in engineering or science and 1 year of project and program management experience and familiarity with energy storage and other advanced energy generation technologies for batteries, nuclear fission, hydropower, and their markets.
• For Project Manager:
  • Master's degree, particularly in engineering or science and 4 years of project and program management experience and familiarity with energy storage and other advanced energy generation technologies for batteries, nuclear fission, hydropower, and their markets.
