Job Description

Our Mission at AMPECO is to enable the EV charging providers of tomorrow through innovative technology, and the vision we share is to build the platform of choice for large-scale EV charging providers globally.

At AMPECO, we empower businesses with innovative software solutions in e-mobility and energy. Our SaaS product, used by companies to manage their EV charging infrastructure, processes, and efficient energy use, is already making a difference across the UK, continental Europe, South and North America, Australia, and Asia.

Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?

You love building software that genuinely matters - software that changes how an entire industry operates. You're energized by hard problems, by clean architecture, and by the fact that the technologies you work with keep evolving, because that evolution is exactly what makes the work interesting. You're excited rather than threatened by AI changing how software gets built, and you want to be on the leading edge of that shift - not watching it from the sidelines. You want to build software that real businesses depend on, not software that sits on a shelf.

This role sits at the core of AMPECO, where our mission is to enable the EV charging providers of tomorrow through innovative technology. Our platform manages 300,000+ charge ports across 70 markets - critical infrastructure with 24/7 SLAs, used by charging businesses across the UK, continental Europe, the Americas, Australia, and Asia.

We rebuilt our entire engineering process around our CoOperator Dev Agent (CODA): today it delivers 7× the features with the same team, with ~80% fewer bugs per feature. Engineers direct the work and own the quality bar by holding the final approval.

What type of work will you be doing?

As a Software Engineer at AMPECO, you will:

  • Own the architecture and system design - set the technical direction our AI agents build within, and judge whether what they produce fits it. The platform is a global SaaS: a PHP/Laravel core, Node.js + TypeScript and Go microservices, and a React Native + TypeScript mobile app.
  • Groom stories side by side with product owners - this is the highest-leverage human step in our process. You'll sharpen requirements into specs crisp enough to hand to the factory, and increasingly define and request features yourself, not just receive them.
  • Direct AI agents rather than type code: align on the what and the why up front, then validate the result - reviewing not just the final code but every artifact along the way: the implementation plan, the acceptance-test plan, the test evidence, and the agent's proof of work.
  • Hold the final approval that closes every story - the human gate that keeps "frictionless" from becoming "uncontrolled" - and become a trusted voice in raising the quality bar for everyone.
  • Make every correction permanent: feedback you give in review gets codified into the system - skills, rules, and checklists - so the same mistake never has to be corrected twice. Our best engineers are the ones whose expertise the whole factory now runs on.
  • Contribute to CODA itself - refining agent instructions, strengthening automated quality guardrails, extending workflows with project-specific steps, and helping push the system further toward autonomous, zero-touch delivery.

What does a typical day look like?

You wake up to a review stack: the stories you queued yesterday were implemented, tested, and pushed through CI overnight. Your morning is judgment work - reviewing plans and diffs, approving what's proven, sending back what isn't (your comments don't just fix this story; they get mined to improve the factory). Midday you groom the next stories with your product owner - the one handoff we deliberately kept. You end the day by queueing the next batch so the factory runs while you sleep. Bugs flow through the factory just like stories - investigation, root cause, and fix are automated, and the review is yours. You choose when to review them, so bugs never break your flow.

What are we looking for?

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals - system design, API and data modeling, and the code-reading depth to review work you could have built yourself. You can't direct what you couldn't do.
  • Writing as a first-class skill: your specs and review feedback are your work product now.
  • Taste and judgment for quality - you notice what's missing, not just what's wrong.
  • Curiosity about the tooling itself: the engineers who thrive here treat the factory as a product they co-own, not a service they consume.
  • Experience with our stack is a plus - PHP/Laravel above all, and any of Node.js/TypeScript, Go, or React Native - but we care more about engineering depth than framework history.

Structure and culture of the team and leadership of the role

You'll join exceptional engineers whose best knowledge isn't just in their heads - it's encoded in the skills and rules the factory runs on. You learn from both; in time, your expertise joins the library. We run a flat structure with minimal hierarchy: decisions are made close to the work, ideas are judged on their merit rather than the title behind them, and every team member - whatever their level or discipline - is expected to take a leading role in how the team performs. You'll have direct access to the people shaping the platform's direction. We focus on iterative improvement, both of the software we build and the practices we use to build it.

That flat structure comes with real product ownership. You won't just be handed tickets - you'll help define the "what" and the "why" alongside product owners, take features from intent through to production, and own the quality and outcome of what you ship. Responsibility here isn't diffused across handoffs; it's concentrated with the engineer who sees the work through.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to give, learn, and grow alongside amazing, highly experienced people - and to put their mark on a fast-growing company on the path to becoming a global industry leader.

Where is this role located?

This role is remote, with the option to work from one of our Sofia-based offices whenever you like. We offer flexible work hours, and our interview process is entirely remote.
