Job Description
As an Asset Inspection Specialist, reporting to the Asset Inspections & Repairs Manager, you will be responsible for conducting scheduled inspections across the wind asset portfolio, delivering high-quality and accurate inspection reports, and carrying out minor corrective works where required. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to assess findings, prioritize maintenance and inspection activities based on their impact on asset availability, and support the implementation of cost-effective maintenance strategies. Inspections are planned and executed across the full portfolio in line with a risk- and availability-based prioritization approach.
Key Responsibilities and Authorities
- Perform borescope inspections of wind turbine gearboxes to identify early-stage defects and provide reliable technical input for condition assessment and decision-making.
- Carry out inspections of wind turbine generators and related drivetrain components, ensuring accurate identification of potential issues.
- Produce clear, comprehensive, and high-quality technical reports, in compliance with internal procedures and industry best practices, using state-of-the-art inspection methods.
- Plan, organize, and execute complex inspection activities at wind farm level, coordinating multiple stakeholders, equipment, and tools.
- Perform minor corrective actions and repairs, when applicable, to mitigate immediate risks and prevent further damage.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and international teams (engineering, operations, asset management) to evaluate findings and prioritize inspection and repair activities.
- Support the definition and implementation of cost-effective and optimized repair strategies, contributing to the long-term reliability and performance of the company's wind turbine portfolio.
- Operate in a multinational environment, with frequent travel and exposure to a wide range of wind turbine technologies and gearbox designs across different sites.
Health & Safety, Quality and Environment (HSQE) Key Responsibilities and Authorities
This document must be read in combination with the HSQE Management System Manual, available on Nadara Intranet, which outlines the mandatory HSQE responsibilities and authorities related to this role.
Technical and Cross Competences (Optional)
Technical competences:
-
Solid understanding of wind turbine generator technologies and components.
-
Knowledge and capability to provide diagnostic activities related to wind turbine generators, including but not limited to:
- Borescope inspections of gearboxes, main bearings, and other turbine components.
- Electrical inspections and measurements of generators, transformers, and other turbine components.
- Wind turbine generator walkdowns.
- Blade inspections and structural assessments.
-
Ability to understand and evaluate the implications of diagnostic activities, both in terms of their contribution to predictive maintenance strategies and their impact on turbine availability.
-
Focus on H&S skills: knowing how to recognise and report safety risks and take appropriate actions.
Cross competences:
- Proficient English, additional European languages are considered an asset (French/Spanish/Portuguese/Italian).
- Skilled in using reporting and documentation software on both desktop and mobile/tablet platforms.
- Confident in working with digital tools and applications to support field activities and data collection.
Managerial Skills and Behaviours (Optional)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in interactions with on-site personnel, contractors, and local teams during inspection and field activities.
- Ability to coordinate and guide field operations during inspections, ensuring alignment between involved parties and adherence to safety and operational requirements.
- Solid problem-solving skills in field environments, with a proactive and pragmatic approach to managing unexpected situations and operational constraints.
- Capability to maintain focus on task completion and quality, even when operating under challenging site, environmental, or time-critical conditions.
Education and Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience in the wind energy industry; prior experience in borescope inspections is considered a strong advantage.
- Degree in industrial engineering, preferably mechanical or aerospace engineering.
- Valid GWO (Global Wind Organisation) certification.
- Additional QHSE-related training beyond GWO, relevant to wind turbine environments, is considered an asset.
- Additional certifications or training related to wind turbines, either general or OEM-specific (e.g. Nordex, Vestas, Senvion, or similar), are considered an asset.
- Certifications related to work at height (e.g. IRATA or equivalent) are considered an asset.
Travel Requirements (Optional)
Availability to travel approximately 50% to 70% of total working time, primarily (but not limited to) within the Iberian Peninsula, depending on assigned inspection and repair activities and site locations.
