Wärtsilä Energy Storage is looking for a Electrical Engineer - Manufacturing. The role will be part of the Manufacturing Engineering team. The Engineer is responsible for the design, development, assembly, and testing of electrical systems and components. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that products meet quality standards and performance requirements. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth.

The Engineer is required to work on site at the factory in Penang, Malaysia from Monday to Friday.

What will you be doing

As Electrical Engineer - Manufacturing, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

  • Provide the day-to-day assembly/test support related to electrical components of energy storage product e.g., PLCs, breakers, fuses and relays for DC and AC circuits, connectors, cables (both power/ethernet/fire alarm) etc.
  • Provide product maintenance support to review, search, verify alternate electrical components sources.
  • Work independently with vendors and design team to understand root cause of failures, propose design or component changes, and implement and validate design changes.
  • Support cost reduction efforts and identify new cost take out and ideas
    Review electrical schematic, single line diagram, field wiring diagram, wire-list in Eplan and BOMs for energy storage systems following UL508A and IEC61439-1/2 standards.
  • Define electrical assembly/test issues and risks to the product team and support driving solution and implementing it.
  • Reviewing engineering change requests generated by change management team.
  • Provide troubleshooting support to the manufacturing floor
    Evaluate vendor capability to manufacture products and support ramp up target.
  • Review product design and confirm manufacturability in collaboration with product development team and factory personnel.
  • Lead Design for Assembly & Test analysis & drive solutions
    Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and support developing and maintaining the FAT procedure regarding electrical engineering.
  • Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions for the product development programs.

You will shine in this role, when you have

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics
  • 10+ years of electrical assembly/test experience with focus in electrical engineering, troubleshooting, testing power systems and control panels or switch gears
  • Able to create and review electrical schematic, single line diagram, field wiring diagram
  • Able to create and write components specifications and understand components datasheets.
  • Working knowledge of industrial control philosophies, and communication protocols
  • Experience with Electrical CAD software e.g. AutoCAD electrical
  • Basic Knowledge of Eplan
  • Experience with PDM(Product Development Management) software like PTC Windchill or Autodesk Vault or equivalent
  • Problem solving and innovative mindset
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, and vendors in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills and team player attitude
  • Willing to travel 20% of the time for trainings or meetings
