Job Description
As the Junior Energy Analyst, based in Cape Town, you will work in a team to minimize project risk and Levelized Cost of Energy of Mainstream's utility-scale projects, through best-practice resource assessment, project layout designs, and energy analysis, tailored to the specifics of each project development stage (greenfield to operations) and technology type (wind, solar, BESS, hybrid), aiming for zero gap between pre-construction and operational energy yield predictions. You will be part of the global EAG team and will contribute to the development of EAG standards, ensuring alignment with industry best practice resource and energy yield assessment techniques for established and evolving renewable energy technologies.
What you will do
- Deliver continuous, timely, and tailored energy analysis services for assigned projects, adhering to global EAG standards. These can include: wind and solar resource monitoring and assessment, measurement campaign design, project layout design, preconstruction energy production estimates, operational yield assessment, internal power performance testing, BESS modelling and optimisation.
- Collaborate, provide quality checking, and share knowledge with all EAG colleagues, embracing our global operating model.
- Help drive continuous improvement in all EAG processes, procedures, tools, and data management systems. Implement assigned internal and external R&D activities related to evolving energy analysis technologies and methodologies. Ensure that Mainstream receives optimal service from assigned global suppliers of data, equipment, software, and services related to energy analysis.
- Collaborate with Mainstream's internal departments, including HSSE, Development, Procurement, Commercial, Engineering, Construction, Operations, Legal, and Finance. Communicate site-specific energy production and site condition risks to project teams, ensuring the risks are fully understood by the business.
- Proactively engage in on-the-job and formal learning and development to prepare for a more responsible role.
What we require
- Candidates with a Master's degree in Engineering or Physical Science are encouraged to apply.
- 2 years of experience in pre-construction energy analysis covering wind, solar or BESS.
- Highly analytical with attention to detail and ability to exercise engineering judgement. Self-starter.
- Excellent IT skills, including: programming with Python, experience with PANDAS, experience with SQL databases and analysing large datasets.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to develop professional relationships with suppliers. Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical colleagues. Excellent verbal and written English.
- Willingness to travel to remote areas as part of a team.
- Valid driving licence.
