What They Do

SELCO Foundation is dedicated to designing and enabling decentralized renewable-energy solutions for underserved communities, particularly in India. The Foundation's core technology focus is on decentralized renewable energy, primarily solar photovoltaic systems, coupled with battery storage and customized solar-powered appliances for healthcare, education, and livelihoods (source: selcofoundation.org). Their approach emphasizes energy-efficient end-use devices and system integration, rather than utility-scale wind or hydrogen production (source: hbs.edu).

Projects & Track Record

SELCO Foundation has been involved in numerous impactful projects. Notably, the 'Energy for Health' initiative, in partnership with the IKEA Foundation and India's Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, aims to bring solar solutions and efficient medical equipment to 25,000 healthcare facilities across 12 states by 2026 (source: hbs.edu). Additionally, SELCO has implemented micro-scale rooftop solar and battery projects powering livelihood equipment and school/clinic electrification projects (source: youtube.com).

Recent Developments

In recent years, SELCO Foundation has been prominently involved in the 'Energy for Health' initiative, which has been a significant focus in 2023–2024 reports (source: hbs.edu). The Foundation continues to be featured in case studies and donor reports on scaling cold storage and solar vaccine refrigeration solutions (source: ssir.org). While SELCO Foundation does not engage in traditional equity funding rounds, it has historically aligned its capital with mission-driven social investors (source: doughnuteconomics.org).

Working There

SELCO Foundation offers a variety of roles across technical design, program management, enterprise development, research, and policy engagement (source: som.yale.edu). The primary office is located in Bangalore, India, with field roles requiring travel across project states (source: selcofoundation.org).
