Job Description

About the Role

The Battery Test Lab Technician is responsible for supporting product development through the initial set up of battery testing, the maintenance of testing equipment, performance of in-lab characterization, and the transition to failure analysis upon test completion.

Accountable For

The timely establishment of cells and batteries on test equipment, proper documentation of required activities and clear and articulate communication to team members regarding the transition to failure analysis. This also includes maintaining and calibrating lab equipment, including testers, computers, tools, and cables. All Test Lab employees are accountable for maintaining the laboratory in a safe and well-ordered state.

Responsibilities

  • Setup of cell and batteries and operation of battery cycling equipment (MACCOR, ARBIN, PEC, NEWare) in accordance with the Eos Test Lab Operation Work Procedures. Requires the ability to maneuver in low and/or tight spaces to connect cables and wiring.
  • Maintain thorough records using electronic traveler, e-mails, online ticketing systems, Lab Notebooks and Test Lab Laptop for all batteries put on and/or taken off test
  • Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve test and equipment issues as needed
  • Provide an open line of communication with both experiment owners, lab managers, and FA team members for post-mortem analyses
  • Soldering, crimping, stripping, heat shrink, small fixture building and repair of cable assemblies
  • Perform calibrations on equipment that falls outside Eos's standards
  • Lab cleanup and waste removal in the event of critical battery failure
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows 7, 8, and 10)
  • Working knowledge of multimeters and calibration principles
  • Ability to debug lab equipment during malfunctions or warnings
  • Ability to wear all other PPE deemed necessary to perform the tasks above, including emergency cleanup scenarios
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner, identifying and fulfilling the needs of the organization

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates degree preferred
  • Formal training with lab equipment (including computer OS's)
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience

  • Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
