Overview

The Staff PV System Designer is responsible for facilitating communications as well as reviewing and driving the project pipeline between Design, Sales, and Operational branches. The Staff PV System Designer is responsible for developing and maintaining tools and processes to assist the design team in creating code-compliant residential solar photovoltaic and energy storage systems. This is a fast paced yet detail oriented position.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize software systems to identify areas of opportunity to improve production and cycle time;
  • Lead cross-functional calls with construction and sales teams to drive continuous improvement;
  • Partner with Design SubContractors and Internal teams to provide guidance and best practices, review metrics, and assist in training and development for proficiency in outsourced tasks
  • Supports Designer and Sub Contractors in project questions related to Electrical and Interconnections, Roof Quality Assessments, Structural Concerns, and other areas to provide for a streamlined customer experience and installation
  • Quickly and eagerly adopt new tools and processes. Advocates for development of new tools and trains on new processes. Reviews and approves project scope of work
  • Creates, reviews and modifies drawing sets and supporting documents (Bill of Material, AHJ Response Letters, ARB documentation, etc) in AutoCAD and tools
  • Complete and update existing projects from other designers or firms to Sunrun standards.
  • Proficient in designing of all types of photovoltaic and storage systems
  • Assist in staffing the Design Hotline to answer field calls at time of construction;
  • Review of Hotline Calls and Reasons; Drives down As-Builts by bringing information back to customer huddle, design team, and other forums to assist departments in running more efficiently
  • Works directly with Site Assessors, Project Management, Operations, and Sales teams to complete designs or projects with strict deadlines;
  • Expert in all codes and construction practices within assigned territory or /region(s)

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in an engineering field and 1 years of solar design experience required
  • OR Associate's degree in design related field and 3 years of solar design experience required
  • OR NABCEP (PV Installation Professional) certification and 2 years of solar design experience required
  • Proficient knowledge of the National Electric Code required
  • Proficient knowledge of residential construction techniques required
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Salesforce, Brightpath (or other digital Solar Production Analysis software), and Google Office Suite or equivalent;
  • Able to think critically and enjoys the challenge of solving problems (primarily driven by data)
  • Demonstrates good judgment and analytical skills with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate with engineering, construction, and customer facing teams;
  • Must be able to work shifts on Sunday- Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday due to business and team needs.
