Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer, Innovation will lead the design, prototyping, and fabrication of mechanical systems that drive automation and innovation across our construction and operations workflows. This hands-on role will translate ideas into functional equipment that improves the efficiency, safety, and scalability of utility-scale solar deployment.
This role is based full-time in our office in San Diego, CA. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.
Position Responsibilities and Duties
- Design, prototype, and build mechanical systems and components for automation and field efficiency.
- Rapidly iterate designs to achieve optimal performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of utility scale solar power plant installation and deployment.
- Conduct thorough design analysis and hands-on validation using sound engineering practices.
- Participate in field trials of robotics and other new/unproven technology
Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Experience with prototyping, production, and troubleshooting of automated systems.
- CAD proficiency including 3D modeling & 2D drafting (SolidWorks preferred).
- Experience with static structural finite element analysis software (ANSYS/ABAQUS/SolidWorks Simulation).
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Commitment to safety
- Strong sense of urgency and ownership
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions
- Ability to travel to project sites, up to a couple times a month.

$70,200.00 - $85,995.00
