The Product & Applications Engineer will support the US Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Energy Storage sales team by providing technical expertise for Canadian Solar's Kubank and SolBank energy storage products for behind-the-meter project applications. This role bridges engineering and commercial teams, enabling successful project development through technical product support, preliminary system modelling, and application engineering.
The Project Design Engineer will support early-stage development and engineering for Commercial & Industrial (C&I) energy storage and solar PV projects. Responsibilities include preliminary system design, site assessment, grid and interconnection review, and technical documentation to support proposals and permitting.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide pre-sales technical support to commercial teams and channel partners for Kubank and SolBank ESS products.
- Propose optimal technical solutions and system configurations.
- Run preliminary system sizing and performance modeling.
- Support preparation of technical proposals, system BOMs, single-line diagrams, and application notes.
- Conduct product training and webinars.
- Assist in qualification of partners and EPCs.
- Respond to technical inquiries and support RFP responses.
- Interface with product management, R&D and engineering, and support teams.
- Support ETB platform integration basics.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or business discipline is required; a graduate degree is strongly preferred.
- 1-5 years of relevant experience in applications and/or systems engineering within an Energy Storage integrator or EPC contractor.
- Direct experience in battery storage systems, medium voltage stations, and/or related products/systems preferred.
- Proficient in the specification, technical bid analysis, and procurement of major equipment such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, etc.
- Must have a sound understanding of the commissioning and testing of Energy Storage projects.
- Hands-on experience in system engineering and a solid understanding of related regulatory standards, including NEC/UL code compliance is preferred.
- Global perspective awareness and direct experience working across diverse cultures in a multinational company would be beneficial.
- A go-getter professional with a can-do attitude - setting aggressive, measurable goals and objectives for him/herself and prepared to be measured against them.
- A dynamic professional and the ability to positively interact and collaborate with a diverse group of people at all levels and disciplines and capable of standing in front of key clients, thinking on his/her feet, and making sound decisions within compressed timelines.
- An excellent time manager, able to balance multiple projects and prioritize a broad variety of issues, initiatives, and objectives concurrently.
Technical Knowledge
- Tools: ETB Developer, Helioscope, Aurora Solar, PVSyst, AutoCAD, Excel, Salesforce.
- Microgrid/backup design experience.
- Battery system fundamentals and PCS integration knowledge.
