Job Description

This individual will be responsible for supporting the operations of Avangrid's Renewable fleet with an emphasis on issues related to electrical systems, generation, controls, and compliance, with a special emphasis on Wind Turbine Generators.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance

  • Serve as SME in the areas above by supporting Avangrid's operational fleet on technical issues related to these areas and by proposing and evaluating improvements and modifications.
  • Carry out investigations to identify anomalies and investigate failures of electrical equipment, including major and minor components. Develop hypothesis regarding root cause, identify corrective measures, and organize testing campaigns to evaluate and validate these measures.
  • Identify, qualify, and manage external professionals and consultants as necessary to support technical investigations.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to identify priorities in subject matter areas and support the development of material to explain and communicate these priorities to the business.
  • Organize and lead meetings with original equipment manufacturers and service providers to ensure quality and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Identify and propose engineering studies with the aim of improving the reliability and performance of key components; manage these studies utilizing both internal and external resources.
  • Review design modifications and corrective measured proposed by the OEMS and make recommendations to the business regarding approval.
  • Identify, qualify external professionals and consultants to determine technical compliance with Avangrid's standards.
  • Support operating fleet as required with the aim of creating a safe working environment, addressing technical issues, and maximizing energetic availability.
  • Visit generating plants and suppliers as necessary to investigate issues first-hand and support program deployments.
  • Represent Avangrid at industry and technical forums; participate in the development of standards and provide feedback to regulatory bodies.
  • Serve as SME for NERC and regional standards related to interconnection of renewable resources onto the Bulk Electrical System, e.g., MOD and PRC. Manage projects/campaigns related to achieving compliance with the same

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience; Renewables preference.
  • Demonstrated record of superior academic and professional performance.
  • Ability to prepare and develop formal documentation, technical reports, and presentations.
  • Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, data management, CAD, and reporting systems.
  • Experience with electrical modeling programs such as PSSE, PSLF, TSAT, PSCAD, DigSilent, PowerWorld, ETAP, EasyPower, etc.
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry standards from organization such as IEEE, NEC, IEC, ASTM, OSHA, etc.
  • Experience with measurement systems, and the demonstrated ability to set up and analyze data.
  • Expertise with schematics (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc. ) and single-line diagrams.
  • Must work well under pressure from job demands, multi-tasking ability essential.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to climb 100 meter tall steel towers and lift up 50 lbs. on occasion.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 15% of the time and work in the field.
