Job Description

The SOV and CTV Logistics team, hold global accountability for the strategic planning, management, and operational support of our vessel fleet for our operating sites. The team belongs to the wider Operations Portfolio Management department, a part of Offshore Operations. We are looking for a Vessel Manager to join the team.

The role involves conducting technical performance monitoring of vessels and suppliers at a fleet level, defining standards, improving the technical capability of the fleet on charter, and providing strategic input into logistic solutions for future sites. As part of the team, you will be responsible for providing specialised support and subject matter expertise for all aspects of SOVs across RWE's operational sites. You will manage the technical aspects of SOV contracts including the development of technical standards and specifications, vessel and supplier audits, act as technical lead during the procurement phase, and performance monitoring from a fleet-wide perspective.

About the role

  • Contribute to the operational, health and safety, financial, and strategic performance of RWE's offshore wind fleet
  • Ensure effective management of marine contracts through regular meetings and KPI reviews. Maintain vessel history records and report on vessel performance, supplier quality and HSE performance
  • Manage the technical aspects of the procurement process acting as project manager and directing the tender processes and negotiations
  • Coordinate SOV mobilisation, inspection and delivery at operational sites as required and ensure standards are maintained through ongoing inspections
  • Support operational sites as a centre of competence regarding SOVs and marine operations, assisting sites with Marine Assurance topics as required
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all operational sites, vessel suppliers and industry bodies
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying and implementing industry best practices, incorporating changes to working methods, and adopting technical developments to enhance the safety and performance of the vessels
  • Contribute to the identification and appropriate management of Marine and Logistical risks
  • Carry out supplier audits in line with internal and recognised standards and continual improvement ethos

Your profile

  • At least a number of years' relevant experience as a shipping company Vessel Manager/DPA/Superintendent or a Senior seagoing background in either Deck or Engineering along with significant experience in offshore renewables
  • Extensive knowledge of SOVs- Designs, DP, Propulsion, W2W systems, Capabilities, and Performance
  • Experience of vessel inspections and inspection documentation such as IMCA, CMID and MISW
  • Experience with safety management systems, auditing practices and compliance activities
  • Knowledge and experience relating to Statutory Rules and regulations as applicable to marine activities
  • Experience of vessels contracts and BIMCO formats
  • Knowledge of classification rules, recognised standards, BIMCO, offshore wind best practice
  • Fluent in English language
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplined team
  • Willingness to travel (UK/CE) and willingness to work offshore for short periods

Advantageous, but not essential

  • A recognised and applicable engineering degree (e.g. Naval Architecture)
  • NEBOSH/IOSH/Incident investigation qualification
